I LOVE both GTR and M3, so if you got dough, buy both!

I dont know if they updated the interior much on the GTR but thats the one thing I really dislike with that car. I think I'd take the GTR tho now that I've had an M3 for a while :P

A .2 GT3 is not $40k more than a 2012 GTR. The delta is $30k. New GT3s are hard to find as PAG stopped this production run. Either a used one cheaper or wait until late 2013.

To the OP I'd go GTR over the M. The 2012's are pretty sick.

But honestly a car that starts at $55k vs one at $90k. That's a huge difference. You should be comparing the GTR to a 911 IMO if you have that kind of money. Don't get me wrong the M3 is a great car, but i'd take the GTR if money were not an option.
A M sedan starts @ $55,900. I imagine that the OP is shopping a Coupe which starts at $58,900 and is going to cost most buyers a MSRP of at least $65K once optioned with even a few goodies. Let's at least keep the comparison real.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I must admit that I'm leaning toward the GTR but haven't made a decision. A few of the things I find in favor of the M3 are: 1) Most importantly I can get a true 6 speed car as I really enjoy that interaction with car.
2) That N/A V8 sounds a lot better and is probably an endangered species.
3) The interior is of higher quality. I think the Novillo leather is some the best out there.
4) The maintenance is included and the way you are treated at a BMW dealer vs. a Nissan dealer. And a longer warranty period.

Having said all of this, once I optioned out the M3 the way I wanted it, I was pushing 75K. I can probably procure a '12 GTR for 88K. For 13K, there is quite a performance difference. And, to me, the interior on the GTR isn't all that bad but not certainly up to BMW standards. If only they offered the GTR in a 6 speed. I do recognize that its transmission is part of the puzzle that makes the GTR so quick. But I'm willing to sacrifice a couple of tenths for driving enjoyment. Both are great cars. Decisions/decisions. Good luck to the OP as well.

Similarly though, you can also probably get a '12 M3 for $65K, especially with ED.

This debate can be ended with the realization that the smart ones will wait for father time to unveil the new M3 which can compete better with the new GTR.

Right now the GTR outmatches the M3 in every category save comfort/ride. Better gas mileage, (TT) performance, (straight line, corner's) exclusivity, Technology.

That's why I'm waiting. Probably better lease rates as well for the last year of the M3.

Not sure I agree that will end the debate. By the time the F32 M3 arrives, there will probably be an R37 GTR. It is anybodies guess at this point how that car will perform, but I would suggest we can expect lightweight materials similar to what BMW is planning, and of course, more power too.

Doubt it. Lease rates are always better in the first year due to the residual value. That equation can't be offset by the money factor. Sale price however would be lower if you were willing to finance. This estimate of lower future value is what leads to the higher monthly lease payments. It's just math.

I don't agree with that. When I leased my M3 in 08 the residual was 54% for 36 months. The current residual for May is 62% for 12K miles. I think it's more of a demand thing. They'll jack up the residual and lower the MF when they feel the need to. You never know when it'll happen though....a month after I bought mine the residual went up 2% and the MF dropped to .00025 from .00260 which would have saved me $250 a month!

don't forget the gt-r is considered a supercar. i personally love it and if it had the same performance it has to date back in 08 when i made the purchase of my M3 i would have bought the gt-r instead.

Really? Because of the name? Where can u get a car "consider a SUPERCAR" for 90K? GTR's pedigree is top notch my friend.

All you have to say is, "It's a Nissan that spanks your (insert car name here) and I paid half the price. That should shut them up. The GT-R is an engineering marvel. Design is debatable, but the car is amazing in it's own right.

BMW is not out to fight the GT-R. The two cars are in two completely different worlds. That's like me comparing a M3 to a Cayman. Not possible.

That is just the very point:

"This Nissan spanks out your M3 (for a lesser price)".
Too much M3 vs. GT-R, that is why the next M3 F32 will focus on the GT-R, and not on the other, read C AMG, RS4/RS5, IS-R,... that could not take away the M3's title.

I'm confused.. is the GTR the same price as an M3 in the US? This is not so in Canada.

The GTR lacks some luxuries available on the M3. If you get a stripped out M3, save for say, Mdrive, you are saving nearly $30,000K over a GTR.

If you can afford the GTR, why aren't you getting it? If you are making a comparison with arguments surrounding driving feel, why aren't you comparing to an RWD competitor, say, 911 turbo?

Basically, if you MUST spend $100,000+ on a vehicle, don't buy an M3. Buy said GTR or Porsche. If you want to take a hit in the performance department and put $30K in your pocket and want RWD, buy an M3.

TL;DR can't compare M3 to GTR.

No, the GT-R isn't less expensive then the M3 here in the States at least.

Again, the GT-R and the M3 are in two completely different worlds. You can't compare the two cars to each other. One is a Sporty Tourer while the other is a balls out monster. One seats 4 comfortablely, while the other struggles to fit 3 and you have to be like 2 to fit in the back anyway.

The GT-R is like 5-10k MORE expensive then a fully loaded M3 Coupe.
