Talking New M3 owner

Hi guys, I've been lurking on this site for a while and am really impressed with how great of a community this is. I just wanted to introduce myself and say "Hello".

I currently drive a '03 G35, which has been a great car. But hey, its been 7 years and she has over 100k on the odometer, so recession be damned, its time for a new car. So, I just completed my paperwork this week to purchase a '09 E92 AW M3 with RF interior through ED (Late September Pickup, I also hear there is some sort of "festival" going on in Munich ) and the wait is already killing me! The decision to go with the M over the Audi S5 was a difficult one, but with the deals going on right now and great financing rates from BMW, the price differential between the two cars is marginal at best and its clear which car is the better performer, although the Audi's look and interior fit and finish are absolutely phenomenal and the '10 3rd generation MMI is pretty awesome.

I am ordering the car from Dave Parker, from Stevens Creek BMW (based on recommendations from this board), who did a great job working with BMW NA to get me an allocation from the factory before they shut down production in August to switch over to the '10's. I will post pictures of my pick-up at Welt and when I get my car delivered in September/October. Until then, I will just pine away and learn as much about the nuances of the car from this board.

That's pretty much what I would have done if my wife and I didn't have a son on order (expected delivery Aug 27).

OKTOBERFEST FTW!

Nice - congrats. It doesn't get much better than a new M and Oktoberfest!

I just traded my 03 G for my M and it is awesome.

If you do late September ED you'll be getting a 2010 E92 M3. I would wait to get production for the 2010. Late September is a great time to go to Munich since Octoberfest will be going on. You should also plan to get hotels way in advance for the same reason.

If this is your first ED you'll love the experience. Feel free to PM me if you need more information. I have done 3 EDs in a row.

Still waiting for my E82 M3 to be redelivered.

Congrats on the purchase! I also traded my '04 G35 last month for the M3. No comparison! The M puts a smile on my face each time I drive it, and I'm sure it will do the same for you too.

OK, dumb question time:

I've heard many of you guys rhapsodize about taking Euro delivery. Aside from the obvious advantages (trip to Germany, drive the autobahn, see the factory) does BMW offer financial incentives to do this or what?

Break down the financial side of it for me...

Yes. Depending on what you work out with your CA, the price can be from invoice to a grand over invoice (without much hassle). You can find deals if you look around but you settle for the eq. on the lot. With ED, you get exactly what you want and a great experience with the car in the environment for which it was designed. The roads there are awesome (the Autobahn is fun, but the B roads are much more fun). One of the best experiences I've had in a car....bar none.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. My bad, it is Fox Red interior, but Red Fox is cool .

In terms of the economic incentive, if I remember correctly, BMW has never done discounted ED for M's until this year. You could always order one, but it would be at a price negotiated starting at MSRP rather than ED MSRP, which is about 7% lower. You take this bad economy into account and dealers are doing at least $1k over ED invoice and anywhere between $300 to $500 over ED invoice (typical pricing I found in the SF/Bay Area). So you're getting a car spec'ed exactly how you want it for about $2-$3k less vs. possibly settling for options or a color combo you don't particularly want (assuming you can negotiate a deal $1-2k below US invoice for a car on the lot). Plus you get to experience a tour of the factory, Welt, drive on the autobahn, and in my case, drink lots of beer and hit on fräulein's during Oktoberfest .

And Amsterdam is only a 600 mile drive away (not everything has to be driven by economics).

Congrats! I also just traded in my 2005 G35 Coupe for a 2009 E92 Blk/Blk with DCT. I have about 400 miles on it...cant wait to finally break her in. Considered the S5 for a while but there really is no comparison..at least performance wise. Saw an S5 on the road today and I felt really good about getting the legendary M3. Considered a GTR but maintenance was too high and it just didnt have the class of the M. However, wouldnt mind adding a GTR to the stable in the near future.
