I'm all for more horsepower and less cylinders. I'd rather get a ton of MPGs and power while sacrificing sound than have more cylinders and less MPGs but better sound.

if bmw wanted to use turbo 6 in the next gen. m3, how do they manage the power?
I mean 335s are still in the market in 2012.

a big turbo 6 generates 400-500 HP?

With regard to the photos found at the C&D link the OP provided, the sedan looks like a natural enough evolution from the current sedan, which IMO looks unspectacular, to say the least. The Gran Tourismo thing is rather bizzare looking, albeit minivan-ish. That said, I would think the coupe will look nice enough insofar as it's damn hard to make a two-door car look completely ugly.

In any case, I'd probably still buy them because, quite frankly, I've never been a big fan of the looks of BMW's; I buy them for the way they drive. As long as the ergonomics and driving characteristics (and my willingness to drive true manual trannies) remain the same and/or get even better, I'll keep buying them.

I'm OK with them having slight echos of the Mazda, just please don't let them start to resemble PT Cruisers!!!

Given what I've seen of the current and upcoming crop of Bimmers, I'd speculate that some designer there has a bovine fetish. Next time you are in a cow pasture or at a rodeo, check out the head-on appearance of an infuriated bull (piss off the beast yourself AYOR) and then envision the beast's stylized countenance were it drawn by a comic book artist and that's about what the new 5er's and the artist's rendering of the 3er seem to look like, complete with flared olfactory elements.

(BTW, who ever thought the BMW grill openings look like kidneys? Had that individual ever actually seen a kidney? I guess I buy that moniker for the vintage models whereupon the grills were more vertical than horizontal...)

My favorite body styles were the previous iteration of the 5 (Mid 90's), and the 3's and 6's from two designs ago (late 80's to early 90's). Indeed, the 6 from that era is easily one of the best looking cars one can buy from among all cars made before or since, IMO.

if it's a BMW and the badge begins with a '3', then people (and lots of them) will still buy it no matter how freakishly ugly the thing is.

Picasso would think twice after seeing this rendering.

i think, i m going to start maintaining my car like its a show car and try give it a 7 year life, because after seeing this pic it seems like we are going to have more electronics in the car which also means more CONTROL UNIT updates and software issues.

Probably chris bangle's job is to design the car ugly so that they can sell the body kits to make the visual appearance better by spending extra.

Check that pic out, i think in this pic, car looks kool

PS: Once we start seeing these rides on the road, we will start getting used to it and this same people including me who diss the design now will be boasting how cool the design is

i am sure these are just initial designs. when it comes to the time of production it will look much better. But i am sure tail lights will follow the new 7 series design. not sure about the grill.

Chris Bangle is a guy who only works with a Ruler & a Pencil. Draw all straight lines and let it look like a Volvo or a Lexus IS 300.

but that rendering is gross
If you look at the nose of the new 7, it has some resemblance to a Volvo XC90, which is a SUV. Add those cameras mounted in the grille and it's a bit homely.

Given what I've seen of this rendering, maybe Bangle's job was to restrain BMW's designers from doing this:

Hope that's an accord photoshop.

I agree. It's far too early to assign any accuracy to published renderings. In this example, has no one else noticed that this drawing depicts a right hand drive 3er ? In addition, the wheels are obviously fake and poorly drawn.

wow you are right!
i dunno tho, i still love the 7. and that nose is one reason why i do lol, it adds some serious boldness which the 7 needs as well as the 5. thats why im worried about the 3

these huge grilles are not going anywhere. all these car manufacturers are incorporating them and its like now its become a mandatory design detail. and i cant really complain cause im seeing some nice looking cars

Oh god I hope it doesn't look like that.

Maybe I'll just get a 2010 E92 M3 and keep it for 10 years.
