Considering powder coating stock 19's to black, any tips?

Anyone know how long it could take?

I'm thinking it could take anywhere from 2-3 days, from what I've heard.

Make sure they do a low temp powder coating since the wheels are forged. I specifically called BBS about my STi wheels and this was their advice.

a week at the most and make sure pick the shade of black you want, usually a semi-glossy black will pretty darn good.

I agree. I did gloss and they look amazing in certain light, but maybe a bit "too much" in other lighting. I think my next set will be satin. I always tell people to get some sheen to them (satin or gloss) because when the brake dust builds up, they become flat anyway. So you have both colors covered ; )

I would try to replicate the finish on the M3 GTS wheels.

Have a look at my semi-gloss black wheels in the RAC thread. There are gloss black pictures too. Both look really good, mostly personal preference.

Indeed a huge thread.

All RAC colors (not a great pic): http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...postcount=3698

My semigloss black RACs: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...postcount=3510

To the OP: Just get a sample from the powder coater. Most good powder coaters will have half a dozen or so blacks, including multiple "gloss", "semi-gloss" and "matte" options. Good luck.

I did mine myself and it only took 2 days, but they're painted. Rustoleum makes special wheel paint that's tough as nails and works great. I did it ~4 months ago and still don't have a single chip. Click my signature for more pictures.

Depending on what they have to strip it takes a couple of hours to powdercoat the wheels Roughly two days for completion

My 18s were done by wheelcollision.com. I think they did a very good job. However, not sure what temp they used. Since the stock 18s are cast, I don't believe it makes a difference.

I did mine flat satin black and it looks great. Just fine with brake dust. Did it in West Palm beach and was very pleased with the result.
