Morning! Not to be a whistle-blower with the pole wedged far up his ass but these questions go under wash, wax, car care section. I can spend up to 48 hours per cleaning session (including waxing, wheel care). Yeah! Avoiding damage to the clear coat is a time consuming process. Simple wash and dry however takes about three hours.

I washed my AW car twice in the 2 months I've had it. I like the way it looks when dirty, but truth be told I cant be bothered to wash it

I have heard that this is a bad idea. More washing, more scratches to the clear coat, no matter how careful you are. What are your thoughts? Wheels however should be washed weekly avoid break-dust buildup.

wash when there is excesive dirt on the car. wax when rain drops don't bead on paint any more.

i use touchless wash. not the most thorough but will never scratch your clear coat.

btw bmw paint is softer than tofu!

once a week

if you wash the car properly, you will end up with less swirls/sctraches then if you didnt wash it, all that dirt on the paint laying there will put some marring, esp if someone rus there hand over the paint with all the dirt there, as the dirt will do on its own in the wind or on the highway.

use a soft mit to wash, good car wash soap, two bucket system , after every section rinse the mit well, do the bumpers and skirts last(contains the most dirt buildup), and use either MF or wavvle weave drying cloths to dry the car.. this will ensure a safe, clean car

I have my car washed on average about thrice a week, but this being India, it's a guy with a cloth and bucket and not a machine!

I've heard that too but either way your gonna get some fine swirl marks. So better to keep it clean than filthy which by not washing the car top/bottom, as time goes by, it's gonna get crap in the hard to get places.

So i went and got the clear plastic paint guard from a awesome shop in Grantham, UK called "paintsheild" They do excellent work and garenteed under warranty. It's awesome stuff. I wash, wax or quick detail, and done. Just as if washing it normally but the clear plastic covering never get's swirl marks, or scratches. It's tough stuff! It'll get some scratches in time, I'm sure but it'll save the paint. Anyway, 1.5 - 2.0 hours of washing/detailing about 2 times a week.
