Great video! You get a real sense of the speed. What are your GoPro settings??

Sick video! You can really tell the g-forces by the way the key attached to the remote is flying around.

Also, I noticed that the oil temps were at 75% mark. Is that normal during a brutal track day? Mine never goes past 52-53%.

The Nurburgring is a huge, monster of a track with a lot of space for WOT running. It's incredibly hard on a car in every aspect: lots of bumps that are hard on the chassis, lots of hard braking, lots of long stretches for acceleration, it has lots of elevation changes. It exposes the shortcomings of any car driven hard around it's length.

This isn't necessarily directed at you, but just to give some background, for those who aren't familiar (as if there's anybody here who isn't lol).

Let's have a look at two extremes (in terms of length and average speed):

Nurburgring (Nordschleife)
  • Length: 12.803 mi
  • M3 GTS record: 7:48 (Horst von Saurma)
  • Average speed: 98.48 MPH
Hockenheim Short
  • Length: 1.639 mi
  • M3 GTS record: 1:12 (driver unknown)
  • Average speed 81.38 MPH
That's a difference of 17 MPH average speed.

Nurburgring is a huge track (>10 miles), while Hockenheim Short is relatively short (<2 miles). To give some context, here are some other tracks that are considered long:
  • Circuit de la Sarthe (where they run 24h of Le Mans) is just under 8.4 mi long
  • Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (current config) is 4.352 mi, although the old post-war circuit (which is a better comparison for Nurburgring) was 8.761 mi)
  • Sebring Int'l Raceway is 5.192 mi
Nurburgring is huge, which in itself would make it rough on a car, but it's got a lot of other things going for it as well

I have yet to find a video that shows such a sensation of speed. Great video and driving. That GTS seems crazy fast.
