SPEED isn't that much better. I rather watch non HD races online on Sky than having to watch SPEED commentators.

The broadcast on Sky is great plus they have Martin Brundle.

Id rather watch the BBC honestly. Wish I still lived in the UK and had access to IPlayer...

ohh well. Why not mute the live hd feed out of speed and just put the sky feed through the speakers?

That's what I've been doing!!!

But sometimes there's a second or two lap between Speed broadcast and streaming from SkyF1 or BBC.

Really? I've never had much issue with the Speed guys. Though I will say that David Hobbs is about to the point where he just needs to hang it up. Half the time, he has no idea what the hell is going on and often will miscall who is in what car or which teammate is overtaking who.

Honestly, I've never watched much of the Sky coverage, but I do recall downloading a race I missed that was BBC coverage... Oh my God it was awful. Just SO dry and boring.

Personally I feel BBC has a bit better pre-race coverage (live) in terms of personal touch.
Also post-race forum I think its much better than Sky. Gary Anderson has very good insight of technology and simplifies without really dumbing down like SPEED.

Sky pre-race coverage is very technical and glamorous. But I think where Sky shines was where Martin Brundle grid walk, commentating, and some special features (like ECU module made by McLaren Elecronics last weekend). Also Ted Kravis did a decent job on the pitlane.

However, guests like Damon Hill and the host Simon was a bit weak.

Also interestingly, I felt like BBC has better connection with the teams, and officials.
For example in Monaco, BBC got into Red Bull Energy station, where as Sky people were blocked outside the fence.

I prefer the BBC from past years, the combo of Martin Brundle and DC was great. Awesome pre and post race show and the commentary was stop on

the few BBC races I've caught this year were still pretty good but so its Sky, its a shame Speed cant get it together. I just hate how repetitive they are, they talk about what DRS is every 10 min, so annoying, not even get me started on Will Buxton, although he's gotten better. Ted from sky is pretty good though which just makes Will look ever worse

Even with Brundle's departure to Sky the BBC overall entertainment value and chemistry of the main presenters (DC, EJ and JH) are miles ahead of Sky, so I think at least.

Anyway, lets hope Webber can get a good result and keep the fight going for top spot on the drivers championship. Post summer break could be some car developments so who knows could be a whole new championship dynamic in the second half of the season.

I've always wondered how they put up those massive looking structures. Thanks for the pics of those. Curious if those cranes are owned by the team or if they rent them in advance at each track.

^^This.

Have to disagree about the chemistry of the presenters on BBC this year...I watched a couple of races on BBC and I got the sense that the presenters don't really like each other. Correcting each other, bickering, snappy comebacks. Maybe I caught them on bad days, but DC was the only real strong point in some otherwise weak sauce.

The Brundle/Hill/Herbert/Kravitz/Croft (etc) combo makes the BBC look amateurish in my opinion. The sh*t that comes out of Brundle's mouth sometimes, though! He could fuel a hot air balloon.

IMO Speed is unwatchable. 2 minutes of race, 5 minutes of commercial. Nascar-esque presenters.

But hey, the racing is what's important. Can't WAIT for the weekend.

Who controls the video feed of the race? That's what it all revolves around. Speed just puts it's 3 talking heads in a studio and they seem limited to and comment on the same exact images you're watching at home so it's about as primitive as you can get. I don't know if that's all anyone can do, but compared to other major sports like the NFL, where the broadcasters are actually there and can use whichever cameras or replays they want, it's pathetic.

Because DC is (still I think) an advisor for Red Bull...

You CAN NOT beat the pre race and post race coverage that Sky Sports broadcasts. It's amazing how in depth they get with the sport. I could go on about why I think SpeedTV sucks, but I'd rather leave it at, I prefer the Sky or BBC coverage.

Yes, the pre-post race coverage is great. I also like that they have top Le Mans drivers as commentators giving insight on the sport and comparing it to Le Mans Prototypes.

Correct! And he is also driving a Merc in DTM races.

I felt the grid is also giving some respect to EJ as a team owner. Even though sometime there a loose connection between his brain and mouth.
