Anyone here who had E90 335i and traded for E90 M?
Toying with the idea. My last M was an '00 M5, and unless my memory is awful (never drove 'em side by side), I like my 335i better overall; it's a lot tighter. Weight is the enemy, and that M5 was a pig.

I had a e39 M5 for a very short while before I ditched it for a e46 M3 instead. I love the power, rumbled and the feel e39 M5, but was just too much for me. It was stressfull to drive. The e46 M3 was a baby beast version that said car. I have a e90 325 for my daily and was thinking of a 335i when I sold my e46 M3 in leui of my next e92 M3. But initial thoughts were, what for when its going to be like my 325i but just much faster. A test drive of an e90 M3 is nowhere like a 335i, its the baby beast brother in feel and performance to the e60 M5. you need to test drive it and see what I mean. I saw one Sparkling Grphite e90 with grey 18" and black leather+ blacklines. It was Sweeet!

I traded my e90 335 for the e90 M3. Two totally different cars and I don't regret the trade one bit (milage isn't as good but come on, it's an //M!). I love my M3, drive with leisure or at the press of a button turn the car into a monster!

E39 M5 is heavier than the E90 M3 by 200 lbs. Sounds to me like you are looking for a reason not to upgrade. You'll find plenty if you look hard enough. Just don't make the mistake of test driving the E90 M3 if you really don't want to buy one.

I traded my E92 335i (manual) for an E93 M3 (M-DCT).
Because the E93 M3 is much heavier there is not that big difference in performances. The biggest difference is another caracteristic of the engine. The 335i has a lot of power in lower regions and is lineair untill 7000rpm. The M3 has less power in lower regions but is a lot faster over 4000rpm. Another thing is the sound of that V8. When you slightly touch the gaspedal it sounds very mature, but if you floor the pedal a monster comes alive... The M-DCT is a dream... I had sportsuspension and 19" wheels (styling 230) with RFT tyres. That combination was very uncomforatble, too hard for me... Now we have 19" wheels also but without the RFT's and with the optional ESP. Even with ESP in most sportive setting, the suspension is less hard than the 335i... Our 335i was a good car, but with this M3 a dream came true... |
