Need help.... court case

I have this neighbor, always complains about speeding in the neighborhood. The twist is that he only singles out my family wheneveryone body in my development speeds. I have 3 sibling and we all drive 50k+ cars at a young age. My neighbor on the other hands drives a minivan and takes the bus to work everyday while my sibling and I pass him every morning with the luxury of driving our cars to school/work.
Usually when we get home from school/work we see the neighbor sitting on his steps giving us the finger because of speeding and loud cars. This gets us annoyed so whenever we pass him we usually gun it or rev the hell out the engine.
I have confronted him on multiple occasions about being more polite but he reacts with attitude and treats me as I was a kid so I stopped and used immature tactics.
My neighbor secretly recorded me and my siblings doing this and apparently filed a court case against us.
I'm not to sure of the details of the court case but will post once I find out.
Now i need any advice i can get to fight this case and the annoying neighbor.

My neighbor actually tells us the same thing. He's not going to take us to court though.

I cant remember, but i once read that a similar thing happened on the highway. Someone recorded a speeding car with his cell phone and reported it. The guy who was speeding ended up suing the guy who recorded him. Can this be done or is this just a rumor? any lawyers here?

well what kind of neighborhood do you live in? are you talking about estates, gated homes, suburban, residential, etc? damn you and your siblings drive 50K + cars. must be some real ballers. still you should be curtious and respectful to the envirnment and not act like a little kid by revving or driving fast. i would say that is showing off. "Ohh look at me i drive a 50K+ car". not hating, but just saying. all i can say is he is Jealous becuase you guys drive some nice cars and he has a minvan or takes the bus. i dont know anyhting about that lawsuit, but someone on here will prob help you out.

It depends on where you are, the means of recording, what is being recorded, what the recording is being used for, and so on. That said, videotaping a neighbor harassing you or violating noise ordinances is not prohibited. No clue what the basis for a "court case" would be about, though. I can't imagine the neighbor is bothering to spend money to go to court (claiming what?). The neighbor would get more mileage sharing the tape with the homeowners association, if there is one, or the local police.

Maybe he is just BS'ing you about the court case, in any case, he doesn't have a calibrated speed measuring device, so they can't really pin a number on you etc etc.

Maybe start video taping his life - I am sure he will do something not perfectly legal if you tape him long enough!

I dont know this smells funny. why would you gun it in front of him when you know that he's been on your case. you just made it worse. You should just obey the law even if "everyone" else in your hood speeds. you dont have to be like them.

I usually ignore the guy but I can't control the actions of my two younger brothers.
I can understand where they are coming from though. The guy has never complaint to my family in person. If he had asked nicely instead of giving fingers, I'm sure my brothers would have just respected the guy and obey the speed limit atleast infront of him.

My neighbor once confronted me for the same reason. Thought I was driving too fast up our street. So, I went down to the market, picked up a nice assortment of baked goods, repackaged them so it looked like I had made them, and hand delivered them to her door. She was very thankful and hasnt complained since... Oh, and my driving habits havent changed at all

He recorded you without your permission = he could be screwing him self over...

Last time I checked, no matter WHAT it was... if you recorded someone with OUT there permission it would not only make the evidence useless for him, you could counter sue him for it.

big brother? the show? they know they are being recorded... they consented to it. I may be wrong but I don't think I am... what is the difference between some psycho filming someone, and using it for whatever... then having an incident with someone and whipping it out for court purposes. He also can not PROVE that it was YOU in the car, unless you can actually SEE you... and of course, if you can SEE yourself in the video then he is filming YOU. Public street or not. You may want to check with an attorney on this one but as far as I know you can't just film someone without there consent, there car... them, there house... whatever. It's invasion of privacy.

just got home and read his letter.... He is basically threatening me with a court case if i do not stop speeding....
here is my respond letter:
Dear Mr. Eugene Crabs,
It has come to my attention that you do not approve of my driving preference. My initial response to this was that I was amazed with how much time people have on their hands to be able to observe someone’s driving habits with a cunning eye. My next response was that I was afraid, afraid that someone was observing me when I wasn’t aware of it. Knowing that someone is watching my every move, someone is watching my ever action, just the thought of it gives me goose bumps.
Then I thought for a moment, if I was really at fault in this situation. I said to myself, “this man is claiming that I have hit 40mph in a 25mph residential area, which he swears could be told by the naked eye”. That’s a really big claim there, having the ability to judge speeds with just the naked eye. My friend, you should have chosen the law enforcement career. You would have been amazing at it, giving tickets left and right writing in the citation, “excessive speed of 10mph sensed by my eyes”. Here is the downside to it, I clearly remember only exceeding the speed limit by 1mph. So studying the facts, either you do not have a radar detector built into your sensory organs or my speedometer is off extensively. I doubt the second case is true because I went in for service September 20, 2008 and BMW services didn’t say anything. I can supply the paper work. Your camera recording argument is not valid because at different angles cars appear to be at different speeds, its basic physics
Mr. Crabs, I would like to say that I have as well seen you cause disturbance in kara court. I have seen you giving the middle finger to my siblings and to myself in multiple occasions. Please, you must realize that there are children living in this neighborhood and this type juvenile behavior does not look right coming from a grown man like you. Plus, what message are you giving the wonderful children living in our quiet residential dead-end Kara court. Actions like these slowly bring violence and last time I check all homeowners of Kara court want our community to be safe from violence. I'm sorry that I did not get a recording. I just don’t have the time, determination or effort to set up a camera outside my house recording you (not to mention that its illegal to record someone without their permission/ signing release form) disturbing the peace in our quite and beautiful neighborhood.
What I am getting at here is that if you had asked us kindly, instead of you cursing and giving violent gestures, we would have happily and gladly fulfilled your request and the situation would have never gotten this far. In your letter it states that you have asked us to slow down, yet I never recall you doing so. I clearly remember you showing us your middle finger while yelling out cuss words.
We will fulfill your request, not because we are intimidated by your threats, but it is the right thing to do to keep my neighborhood safe for the children. As a matter of fact when I pass by your house I’ll reduce my speed to 20mph just to make you happy. Maybe happiness will scare away your cursing habits.
Thank you for wasting my time with you ridiculously long letter.
