Expecting our first baby in a few months and been researching infant seats. Can any the fathers on the forum recommend a good one that fits nicely in the E90 M3?

Im currently looking at the Britax Chaperone Infant Child Seat but some reviews say it might be too large for some cars. Didnt know if this was the case for the E90 M3.
Any other suggestions?

it's both rear and forward facing....

both the above seats fit fine when rear facing...my wife is 5'5" and enough room when sitting in the front seat....

once your child is big enough to go forward facing you'll have plenty of room no matter what...

eventually our youngest will get the recarro and the oldest will get a booster recarro if timing and size work out that way...

Have the coupe, but recommend the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio infant seat. More side head protection than other seats, infinitely adjustable knob for getting it set just right, and has a small footprint compared to other rear-facing infant seats.

Also, if you're still deciding between an infant seat and a convertible (front + rear-facing), my suggestion is to go with the infant. They're the most protective and allow you to keep your child rear-facing longer. But most importantly, they allow you to carry the baby in and out of the car without waking them.

In my personal experience I have used the orbit baby for an infant seat and now I'm using the Recaro child seat pro. You can also find Recaro for infant seats (very safe, easy, reliable)

I have an e93 and had an e92 and pretty much any car seat will fit. I have 2 kids, 2 and 4 yrs old and have at least 6-7 carseats including 2 recaro's, 2 britax (roundabout and marathon), sunshine kids radian, and graco infant/trvavel system with the snap-in bases.
You will have even more room in the e90 of course, but e92/93 aren't really too bad. The main caveat is with any rear-facing seats, which is what is now recommended for first 2 yrs. These really only fit well just behind passenger seat and preferrably w/o front passenger. Of the ones I've tried, I think you'd probably be happiest with one of the smaller britax or recaro's as these are probably the most versatile for wider weight and age range, and very well-built and safe. You should look for one of the convertible seats that allow you to go from rear to forward facing so you can get the most use out of it. As the kid gets older, the sunshine kids ones are good option because they are low profile and can even fit 3 across in many cars + some fold in half for easier travel.
Also, if possible go to baby store and just ask to try out if you are concerned with fit (or buy from anywhere that will accept returns). I ended up doing a lot of online research and then just ordering online for cheaper prices.

The Britax is definitely too big. You could fit it on the passenger side but the front seat would have to be moved forward quite a bit. It'll get better after the first year though and you no longer need to be rear facing. Good luck and congrats.

The convertible seats are big when rear-facing, and trust me, you don't want to wake your infant baby every time you put them in or take them out. Ideally, you lift the infant seat in and out like a basket and carry them undisturbed.

I do not want a convertible seat as the idea is to have a base in my car and another in my wifes car.

Snap in and snap out sounds like a good option for us. I like that the strollers have the same system.

Travel systems are great at first for 1st 6months or so until kid outgrows it. We had the graco travel seat which was super-convenient. You buckle kid into carrier at home and then really don't need to unbuckle...can just snap carrier into base easily. You can buy multiple bases for different cars. Same seat can buckle into graco stroller or most shopping carts.

However, kid will outgrow this quickly and the you will need bigger convertible seat (ie you will need BOTH).

infant seat till ~6 mos old
rear-facing seat until ~2 yrs old (old recd was based on weight + min 18 mos)
then forward facing seat until at least 4 yrs and 40lbs
then booster (this is as far as I've got)

Basically, you will buy a bazillion car seats no matter what. If you choose carefully you can get car seat that will take you from ~6mos to ~3yrs or so though. Then you can buy a combo seat that is forward facing and converts to booser like Recaro ProRide?. For now, just buy the travel system and you will have a while to worry about the rest (I'm sure new seats and recommendations will come out and you will figure it all out as you go along).

Congrats on the new addition to the family

We used a Peg Perego baby seat and stroller and strongly recommend it (for the same reasons as PrimoM3). We found them extremely well desgined and user friendly. Easily adjustable as the little one grows and very easy to use (strapping the baby-in, tightening the belts, snapping the seat in the car or on the stroller). We also had a base in each car (wife and mine).

We swithed to a Recaro when the little-one was about 15 months old. The Recaro has a very wide range from 20lb to 120lb and eventually converts to a booster seat. So here, only two seats are required before she can use the standard car seats .

Graico "snap & go", Britax Marathon, Britax Roundabout, and Britax Frontier 85 all fit fine, but latter is harder to install on any car. For a newborn, would recommend the Graico "snap & go"..you'll only use it for 6-8 months, but snapping into seat bases (and a cheap stroller for $49) makes it so easy (can have 1 car seat for two seat bases) and you never have to remove baby from the seat..useful while baby sleeps. When you're done can always sell it, market is strong for these baby items.

I disagree, the britax does fit fine - although my wife is not exactly what you would categorize as 'amazon'. I have 2 kids, 2.5yrs and a 11month old. Fit a britax (for the older one) and a Peg Perago rear facing for the younger in the back of the e92.

Yea, a little bit of a pain to setup but for the occasional weekend trips with the family its worth it. Congrats on the new baby and cheers to all the folks making an //M3 work with small children.

My son is 17 months and I put him in this Graco seat http://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/GracoBaby/1812931?wid=600&hei=450&op_sharpen=1&resMode=sharp 2.

It's one of the few that fits and still gives your front passenger room. The only downsides to it are that you need to use a rolled up towel to get it level in the "green zone." I would also recommend getting one of theses to put under the seat to avoid any marks from the base on the leather.

Recaro, simple and easy, plus it's not as wide as some of those other seats. Plus it looks cool in the back of an E90M.

Peg Perego, mounted in the centre. Absolutely no influence on the position of the front seats. If you are on the shorter side of average, it might be a bit more difficult for you to remove the seat. I'm 6'1" and have no issues. My wife at 5'7" has a bit tougher of a time.

That prince lionheart mat doesn't fit worth a shit using the LATCH anchors on either side either. It barely fits in the centre, and not well. Nothing wrong with using a towel on the seats.

Edit: The Peg Perego is good for 30" tall or 30 lbs. Our 5 month old girl is in the neighborhood of 23" and 14 lbs, so she's going to be in that thing for quite some time still.

+1 In an E92 the britax chaperone infant child seat will not fix comfortably. the marathon 70 convertible will fix comfortably if it's facing forward.
