Wow, a car with 150 mile range would bug me to no end. That's like driving one of those new plug in electric cars. Hopefully the car gets better with more milage, I am pretty sure that's the case.

Why is MPG important? This is an M3!! Its a sports coupe designed for performance!!
If MPG is important to you you need to buy a different car... |

It's an annoyance to have a tank the size of a thimble. Sports cars are no fun when you gotta stop every 195 miles. See, non-owners don't understand that the "idiot light" gas warning comes on at 1/4th tank, so basically you are concerned about fuel every 150 miles. Now I will quit bitching and look for a solution.
Has anyone been able to increase mpg performance with after market intake modifications such as a easier aspirated intake filter...ie K&N? Even 1-2 MPG would be nice. I'd also like to know if those guys that have 19" wheels experience any difference. I would think the unsprung diameter would inhibit standing starts a little more and possibly make for worse mpg. I have 18's. |

I get 12... but let me say that I drive in P400 more often than P500. I would probably get about 10 in P500 mode.

Pretty much one tank. But I remember that I got 16-17 when I first had my e46 M3, so this is already an improvement. I am sure over 20 average is easily doable, but then you are not having much fun driving it!
Best, CSL

Came from ED and drove with a combination of Autobahn, city and mountains. The car average 18.1 mpg and to me it is not bad considering it is still in break-in. In the Autobahn I average @ 90 mph (fluctiating from 75 mph to 120 mph). I should have checked my average speed.

I drive mine like I stole it (and I really do) and if I add in motorway miles when I cruise at 80-90mph it still averages 19mpg.

What did you do, swap the 4 litre out for a Beetle motor. Every time I see a picture of your car on those wheels I cringe with envy. Now that is how a Twenty First Century German sports car is suppose to look and perform. |

Strange, strange. Not only do I have 7 speed M-DCT but I typically cruise at about 80 on the freeway and have a long commute. I have yet to average in the 18s yet. Ugh.... bloody M-DCT

I usually average 30mph on my trips to and from work. Now averaging 14.3mpg with 400 miles on the car. This is with easy break-in driving, with low rpm shifts.
