2009 BMW M3  [0.00]
New Owner and Certified iDrive Dummy

So after many years of longing, last weekend I purchased a 2009 E90 M3 in Atlanta and drove it back to Chicago over Sunday. My previous vehicle was a 2006 G35 coupe that I owned and enjoyed for over six years with not a single issue. The M3 is an upgrade in nearly every way and I'm thrilled every time I look at her.

Obligatory pictures from the road trip:

I've never owned a vehicle with iDrive or any similar controller-type telematics system. On my road trip home, I had one consistent issue that really irritated me: when using the navigation and entering street names, there would be several with the same name listed on the right screen. They all look identical and I could not figure out a way to have the entire street name displayed (just an ellipses at the end), which necessitated guessing until I could then enter the appropriate street number. I'm assuming I'm just an idiot and cannot figure out how to get the right street name (and I never encountered this with my G35). Any veterans with advice?

Congrats! Pic link isn't working, at least not for me.

Anyway, yeah I haven't found a fix for this either. The map will bounce around when you choose the different choices so if you know the general area you can pick the best one. Not the smoothest implementation.

Veteran/idrive: I used it to set the EQ; I rarely touch the thing.

instead of putting in the city name for city in navigation, put in the zipcode. then it wont bust out 100 different locations of the same street in different locations.

btw good choice in black sedan!

Same advice. Use the zip instead of the city.

While I love my M, I feel,(many others will say) the iDrive is primitive to other navigation systems. My '04 Lexus RX330 navigation is easier to use than my '13 M3... BUT!...it looks great

you scared me, i thought you stole mine lol

Mine is the same, 09, 6MT, Jerez Black, Cold Weather Pack (headlight washers), Tech Pack (I-Drive), Enhanced sound, Extended Black leather, Rear parking, basically fully loaded except rear sunshade and DCT.
I got the same M performance gloss black kidney grills, color matching side markers, 220 19" wheels.

I love the mean looks of black sedan front facia with black kidney grills and black side markers...looks business!

good to see another 1 of 1336 E90 LCI 6MT M3 ever made Worldwide!

I initially did not want a black car, as I've owned one before and they're a pain to keep clean, but now I'm so glad I did and couldn't agree with you more. The car is just so menacing when nearly everything being black (kidneys, side markers, also 20% tint all around). It's almost like a predator cat ready to pounce, or something Darth Vader would drive, and I love that about it.

Congrats!

RE idrive: If you have iPhone. Register your account with BMW, Download the BMW remote app. Then You can enter address via online search and then send to vehicle. That's what I do and I have never had to enter an address since.

Once you're registered, you can also send an address directly from google maps search. (No iphone needed for that).

What exactly needs to be registered with BMW? Does this require BMW Assist?

Did you buy the car from David? If so, you got an awesome car. He took really good care of it. I worked on that car. Congrats and welcome to the club.
