2008 m3 convertible to have carbon fiber top?

I read somewhere on the internet (can't recall the site) of the new 2008 convertible having a retracting carbon fiber top? Has anyone else heard whether this is true?

It looks unlikely. Photos here.

It's gonna be aluminum, which saves a lot of weight on its own.

Is that confirmed? I know it was rumored 6 months ago.

I'd place a strong bet on steel. Although I have heard that the new vert will use a few cool "weight savings" (anti-bloating, perhaps stated more accurately) tricks, I'd still bet that the retractable roof is the same material as the 335i vert. Pretty sure that one is steel, right?

yea the normal 3 series is steel.

The aluminum top hasn't been confirmed by BMW, but I'd be really surprised if they just left the roof the way it is.

I guess we won't know anything for sure until the press release. Anyone know when we should expect that?

Given that the CF roof only saves 11 lb. on the coupe, I would guess an aluminum roof on the cab would save a little less. I doubt BMW would invest in new manufacturing techniques for the limited number of 'verts to be produced. Most of the wieght premium is in the mechanism and motors, but these, too, would be expensive to take weight out of. I think your prediction of using the same roof as the 335i will prove right.
