Yeah if I was standalone wi H out question I would be full E85 with lots of timing to take advantage of it. But stock ecu no one is tuning it out side of gintani and maybe rk.

Keep in mind you live in Cali and you have to get your car smogged every 2 years now. Changing out an xpipe vs. a supercharger are 2 different animals. Also, a tune is $900, test pipes $400, pullies $400 and a CAI (not much of a gain over a drop in) can all be done in under $2500.

I found my Megan catback used for $200, test pipes used for $200, BPM Stg. 2 tune $900 and bought a AFE Carbon Fibre CAI used but with new filter for $300 for a total of $1600. Couldn't be happier. Do I want more power? Of course..just the thought of having to rip out a SC every 2 years is prohibitive.

4 walbros? why? 2 would have made up for your fuel needs and more. even on full e85 that's way over kill just a huge draw on the electrical system.

I would imagine CA is the largest market for supercharger kits. How do other people pass smog? I would imagine you can pass with the supercharger + emissions tune loaded + stock xpipe... Shouldn't be any need to remove the kit every 2 years.

For the supercharger or the xpipe? And my question stands, how does everyone else in Cali get away with it?

Well I doubt the secret is pulling the supercharger and reinstalling every two years . I don't see how the supercharger would be a cause for failing a visual test like an xpipe would be, would it? Therefore I don't see why smog testing would be a reason for someone to avoid installing a supercharger.

Or am I really just missing something here?

Either one..the issue with the XPipe is getting all the readiness codes to be green. Cali only allows one code to not be green and thats the Evap. Everything else has to have green readiness.

The issue on the visual is more on the S/C. You pop the hood and they see a S/C without a CARB number. Fail...

In Cali we don't do sniffer tests anymore. Its readiness codes and visual.

Ah, I see. You can get an emissions tune from ESS that will get all the readiness monitors to be green with a stock xpipe (or possibly HFC xpipe). Not sure how other folks are handling the visual aspect though.

4 walbros is good enough now we are running 100% Meth istead to Ethanol E-100.
Só its a lot off fuel demand for 800WHP

What if we are not local?

Right now with ESS's price drop recently the 595 kit seems to be the best bang for the buck. $7k and will get you in the 500whp club. 8k will get you about 30 more hp with the 625 kit. With a used kit keep in mind you will have to buy the tune again which is $900-1k so add that on top of the price.

If you are local to us we still have the free install deal going on ESS superchargers.

Are you sure ESS offers a emissions tune with HFCs or no cats? Its a Federal crime, $10k for each occurence I believe. Multiply that by the number of cars they did and you will see a financial disaster for ESS.

BTW this is from ESS's website..

ESS will provide you an emissions tune, but it will not help if you are catless. It doesn't hardcode ready status as that would be illegal. The emissions tune will just allow the car to run the O2 sensor readiness test, not guarantee that you will pass it. With that said, there is indeed a chance it would pass with HFCs.

This is my readiness status with an ESS 625 and stock exhaust:

I was able to pass with the regular tune, but if I needed that last green check mark the emissions tune would do the trick.

man the allure of a FBO s65 is hard to ignore. I'd love to add headers, cams and that Karbon intake plenum + a custom e85 tune...but that would be like $15k and I'd make maybe 415-430 at the wheels on a generous dyno...bragging rights and uniqueness would be cool but honestly, I'd rather have 500 at the wheel at call it a day for a smaller (overall) investment.
