S65 Dinan 4.6 stroker
Hey all....
Need some input. We have a customer with an E92 M3 track car that had a Dinan stroker installed. He has had it about a year. The M3 is now eligible in SCCA T2 and that's where he wants to race the car. Obviously he needs to replace the stroker with a stock S65. I guess there would be two options: 1. Try to find someone local that would like to swap. We would need to get about $12k for the motor including a solid core swap. or.. 2. Sell the car as is. Very narrow market seeing as how the car isn't suited for any specific class and very expensive for a track toy. What do you think? Pic of said car |

Since the car has a cage and is fully built -- the best option is to sell the motor.
It will not fetch $12k -- but u will get north of $6k + a stock S65 Motor. How much would you ask for the entire car? What mods on the car? |

I'd pull the motor, install a 4.0l from somewhere and try to sell the stroker motor for the cost of whatever the 4.0l costs you. I bet you'd come out ahead and it takes away the headache of having two motor swaps going on in close proximity to eachother.
Hell, contact Dinan they might have a lead on somebody who wants it. It's in his interest to keep the resale value of those motors healthy. They might even be willing to market it for you. "This motor was only used on Sundays..."

I'd do the swap and will bring my car to Chicago. Won't pay $12k but still interested at a lower price.

I'd suggest the motor swap route. someone should jump on this for something somewhere between $8k - $12k plus the core swap. I know I probably would be all over this had I not gone the S/C route a few months ago.

I appreciate all the feedback! Looks like everyone is on the same page. I am a little surprised that some think $12k is on the high side. We buy fully dressed 4.0l S65's semi-regularly for our Grand-Am program at that price point. I will give it some more thought. I guess I should add that the motor has approx. 8-10 hrs. on it.
As for the car, it was built to Grand-Am Continental GS spec. The customer changed course and went another route. So as it sits it has a Full cage, fuel cell, motons, etc... The price he put on the car was north of $90k. Which is why I agree the motor swap is the best route. Thanks again! |

Unfortunately the motor was purchased without the Dinan warranty. Otherwise, I would be digging through couch cushions and do the swap in my own car!
The E92 is in T2 at 3700 lbs. Should be interesting. I will talk to the owner tonight and post contact info tomorrow for those that might be interested. Thanks again for everyones input! |

Is the Dinan stroker 4.4 or 4.6L?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I won't do it at 12Gs though, especially since the car has no warranty, and Im ,it was run hard since its a track car. Was the motor used before the current owner bought it in its current form? But Im interested, I could always drive down and have you guys do the swab at your facility. But I need more info on the motor itself, its history, what else I would have to purchase from Dinan....the list goes on.

I completely understand! It's not a simple mod and there are a lot of logistics involved. Nothing that can't be sorted out though.
The motor was purchased new from Dinan. We are an authorized dealer. I will get all the details pulled together and post them up. The car is currently at our Autobahn Country Club facility in Joliet. |
