Thumbs up BMWCCA-Boston, 2013 Concours d'Elegance Event - August 11, 2013

I am the co-chair of this event and I would like to invite all BMWCCA
Members to attend the 2013 Concours d'Elegance Event sponsored by Wagner BMW of Shrewsbury. This year the event will be held on Sunday August 11, 2013 at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum (http://larzanderson.org/). That means you have all day on Saturday to get your BMW ready!!! (Please note the Larz Anderson Museum lists this event as BMW Day.)

Last year despite the early morning rain which ended there by 9am we had 69 BMWs and one Mini participate. This is a judged event so entry of your car will need to be chosen by you as to which entry class you wish to participate in. The entry classes are noted on the BMW CCA Boston Chapter web page as is the scoring sheet we will use to evaluate your car. If you have any questions about choosing which class to enter your car, please let me know and I will assist you. Also, note that we will have a "Display" Class which will be judged by the attendees and will not include any formal judging.

First timers, don't be afraid to enter a judged class, I will help you understand what to do.

Here are the event details:

I know many of you are awaiting a weather forecast to make your decision to attend. The AccuWeather.com long-range weekend weather forecast is now available and looks great. Saturday will be perfect for getting your BMW ready and Sunday looks like a great day for our event (confortable summer temperatures).

Please help us by pre-registering here: http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/events/...px?EventID=670 and let me know if you have any questions.

I hope to see you all there.

What time is the judging? Do we need to be there before 9 to detail our cars, or does that begin at 9 after we arrive?

LarThal: glad you can make it! We will open the gates shortly after 8:30am. Depending upon how many folks show-up without pre-registering, this will determine how long it takes to get parked on the lawn in the class area you registered. You will then have from that time until 11am when we will call "Rags Down" and all cleaning must stop. Judges will begin immediately so we can finish and present awards around 2pm.

Do you need any more info?

Never done this type of thing before....with judging and all. How do you determine what class? And what if someone has a car with like 100 miles on it...obviously that car is going to be in great condition. Whats the deal with all the equipment being out of the car? I actually like the presentation of my car with the floor and trunk mats in it since they have M3 logos. Maybe I will do a display only, although my car will be absolutely pristine !!

Let me try and help in a short reply:

The Judging/Presentation Levels are as follows:
Display: Non judged display of vehicle, shown as is.
Clean (CL): Interior, Exterior and Trunk.
Super Clean (SC): Interior, Exterior, Trunk, and Engine Compartment.
Concours: Authenticity is considered as primary criteria. Vehicles are prepared with attention to quality and originality to detail as expected in formal Concours d’Elegance. (very limited entries qualify, we will review upon arrival).

Judged entries are grouped and compete in these groups:

VINTAGE 1st & 2nd Gen
Model Years 1960-1970-1980’s

MODERN 3rd & 4th Gen

LATE 5th Gen,
Current Production, and MINIs

Concours

Bonus points are awarded as follows:
1. One point for every 10,000 odometer miles; up to a maximum of ten points.
2. One point for every ten years of the car’s age (model year is base rounded down); up to a maximum of 5 points.

Here is a link to the actual documents for your review:

http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/_upload...ifications.pdf

http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/_upload...dgingSheet.pdf

Your M3 is very clean and you should therefore consider entering into at least the "Clean" class.

Hope to see you all at Larz tomorrow.

I did try to pre-register but it only accepts paypal and I don't to paypal for assorted reasons that I don't care to go into on a public forum.

Super clean I think. I drove up to York yesterday in the rain, however, so my super clean car isn't so super clean right now. Let's see how I can get it by showtime tomorrow !!

I would have considered concours even, since I cleaned all the fender wells, suspension components, polished the brake rotor hubs, etc, etc, but my car is modified and you stated that concours cars are also based on "authenticity". Most of the mods, however, are BMW M Performance parts.

I don't know.....you can tell me when I get there !!

Our Title Sponsor, Wagner BMW of Shrewsbury (http://www.wagnerbmwofshrewsbury.com/index.htm) is bringing a tricked out M Sport 535i with all kinds of Carbon Fiber & Exhaust kit and a 2014 BMW 328XD (D=Diesel). They will be allowing test drives on the BMW 328XD.

Weather is going to be great and we expect more than 70 BMWs at the event. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!!

Great show. I drove down from NH and walked around for an hour. Nice 2002s, 2800 and 3.0 coupes including an alpina, and examples of all newer ones. ESS supercharged E92 M3 also there. I left my 08 E90 M3 on the street -- it is a driver not a show car.

Here are the totals for the day by entry class (all groups):

103 cars total in the event

41 in "Display" Class (Not judged)

62 cars judged in the following classes:

40 in "Clean" Class (Judged: Interior and Exterior)
22 in "Super Clean" Class (Judged: Interior, Exterior, Trunk and Engine Compartment)

Last year we had 69 cars so as you can see we had a much larger turnout this year.

Thanks to everyone that attended and a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped us by pre-registering!!
