Buying D90 on ebay?

I am planning to buy a pre owned D90 (hopefully kit) from ebay and was not sure how/what to look for before I place a bid or buy it....

I beleive the cams come with a 1 year warranty and was wondering if the cam that I am planning to buy is less than a year old...will it still be in warranty or do you have to register the cam online to start the warranty...

i would try your local craigslist and deal with them face to face instead.....you should get lots of good deals in the $700-$800 range. ask them how long have they had it and the shutter count, etc.

that would all depend on when the camera was purchase from the original owner....as long as they have the original receipt and it's less than a year you should be good.
that's why you would have to ask them questions and play around with the camera in person.
if you're still not comfortable about the camera you can just tell them that you'll have to think more about it.
also make sure the camera is not gray market version cause i think that definitely will not be cover under warranty

I have been looking around for that cam for some time now...and looks like the price has gone up from 900(feb) to 1199(APr) on amazon...Any clue where I can find a new cam kit for less than 1000...cant seem to find them anywhere for that price...

I know what you mean about spending $1k that's why you have to decide what's best for you. To me if he doesn't have the receipt then don't buy it and move on and look for another deal......there's always other deals out there it's just whether you can wait or not

how about buying a new d90 kit(with 18-105mm) along with 55-200mm for 1100?

I was reading on the internet and people were taking about the range overlap between these lens and were suggesting to go 70-300 route mm which will be way expesnive setup for me...just wanted to know your take...

for me i would just stick with the kit 18-105mm or get the 18-200mm if you really need the zoom. one good advantage for the 55-200mm is it's not a very expensive lens.
you really have to ask yourself what type of photos your want to take? if you're not serious then just save your money and stick with the kit and you should be fine.

How does the warranty on these cams work? is it one year from purchase(according to receipt) or do you have to register the cam and then your 1 year warranty starts ..?

B&H Photo in NYC has a couple refurbs. At least you get a warranty with them and B&H is very reputable. I just bought a Lumix DMC-FZ28 there for my brother. I wanted to make sure I could return it, so I went with B&H. If you're near NYC, stop by there and take a look. It's an amazing store.
