Oil Change sensor broken?
I bought a used 2011 m3 with 8,800 miles on it. I've since put a few more thousand miles on it, but the miles until service meter is still reading 3,800...the same it read when i bought it a few thousand miles ago.
Could the sensor be broken? |

I don't belive there is such a sensor. I think that the oil change is a calculated estimate based on the mileage driven and the type of driving (i.e. average length of trip, did the engine come fully up to temperature most times, outside termperatures, average speed or whatever).

Oil Change sensor?..no such thing..that mileage is dictated by BMWs condition based service system.
You want my advice..change your oil every 5-7.5K miles regardless of what it says |

The oil level sensor has a condition sensor in it. It does use the condition of the oil as an input into the algorithm of when to change the oil. There is a pdf floating around here that explains it.
