Had 1200 mile service but no record of differential service
So I got my car back and the service invoice states that the dealer changed the oil and filter and the pollen filter. There is no mention of the differential oil being changed on the invoice. My car has DCT so no transmission oil change as expected.
I called the dealer and at first they said I do not need that service because I have the DCT but I questioned that and they said they changed the differential fluid. Now, I don't know if they changed it or not. There is no record or documentation that says they did. I examined the differential in my garage and the differential drain and fill plugs seem untouched and there is no evidence of oil drips or marks (unlike the engine that had oil all over). So what do I do? Suppose it was changed but I have no record of it? Would this effect future warranty if there is a failure? Effect resale? Or worse, suppose it wasn't changed? Is this a recipe for differential failure? |

I'm getting my 1200 mile service this coming Wednesday and the maintenance manual specifically mentions the change of differential fluid and I will ask the service advisor to specifically put it on the service invoice.
I suggest you get back to your dealer and ask for confirmation that this was done correctly. Politely, I would go up the chain of command to have satisfaction. I wonder if you couldn't go to an independent garage that would inspect the area and possibly confirm if work has been done in that area. Good luck. |

My dealer changed my diff fluid at 1200, but not the tranny fluid. The diff was listed as part of the 1200 miles service. I am 6MT, but the diff's should have the same intervals regardless of the transmission.

It really sounds like they were lying to you on the phone. I just had my 1200 service (DCT also) and my invoice had oil, filter and diff oil marked on it clearly. Call BMW NA and let them know and then call the dealer to get it done.
The ignorance, and disregard to simple protocol by some of these dealers BLOWS my mind...I would expect it from Toyota but not BMW. I thought the 6MT had to have tranny fluid changed also (for the post above)?

This got me paranoid too.. so I checked my invoice and it lists two Differential Drain Plugs http://www.bmwpartsweb.com/BMW-Parts...D-1673215.aspx
But.. no mention of the fluid at all! Should I be worried? |

Take that car back the the dealer ASAP and have them drain and refill the dif. It was not done if it was not marked on the invoice. End of story.

By the way, tranny is 3.6 pints, which is 1.8 qts. Seems ridiculous to me, even if it doesn't include the fluid cooler. The T56 Tremec on the Vette required 4.6 qts. Guess oil changes are going to be relatively cheap, but seems like too little oil for a high-performance engine IMO. Good day man. |
