Post Question About Shipping Car To Different Country

my uncle wants to ship his bmw to south korea. now that all his kids are in college, he and his wife want to go back. i have searched and found numerous international auto shippers but how does this process work exactly? anyone got experience?

the way i see it is this:
1. make appoint and deliver your car to the dock.
2. they put it either a) cargo or b) garage of the boat.
3. you pay a import tax on your car + the shipping rate of the company.
4. just wait and done.

but my main concern is this. my uncle has a 645ci with tints, v1, and rims. when he ships the car does he add the tax to just the value of the car or the sticker price or the sticker price + the mods he done?

this is just a killer process right now. so confusing, alot of paper work, etc.

PS: if you guys are wondering, why doesn't my uncle just buy another bmw in kroea, the answer is this. he simply doesn't want to. he wants the car hes been driving for 3 years to go with him. kind of a memory of his american living days. but all his kids are in college, wife and himself are by themselves and all other family members are there so they want to go back.

thanks for the help guys. much appreciated.

The issue is not with exporting from the US, but with importing to Korea. Your uncle has to contact S.Korean authorities to see what the rules there are pertaining to importation of cars. I suspect that none of us here can answer the question.

Yes you can ship by cargo plane. I saw the MTV special on the gumball in Europe about 2 years ago featuring bam margera. He shipped his purple Lamborghini Gallardo, from Pennsylvania to London I believe. The tab was about $15,000 USD. And the people who were suppose to work for the cargo plane company decided to joy ride and do donuts in the Gallardo, they fucked up the E-Gear Box, which cost another $15,000 to repair.

$15,000 from PA to London? WOW that is not a bad price at all. cargo takes about a month, plane about what 1-2 weeks max lol?
