Please keep us updated or start a new thread about your flywheel. I haven't heard of anyone else needing a fly wheel!!

But then I'm the only one I've read here that had the main belt snap due to a bad pulley.

Next Monday or Tuesday is what the service advisor told me today If it comes back with any problems I am going to try and file for lemon law.

Well,
BMW is not alone anymore.

ODI HAS RECEIVED 12 VEHICLE OWNER COMPLAINTS (VOQ'S) ALLEGING INCIDENTS OF LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHILE DRIVING DUE TO A MALFUNCTION OF THE DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) TRANSMISSION USED IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES. IN MOST INCIDENTS, THE DSG MALFUNCTION EITHER SPONTANEOUSLY SELF-CORRECTED OR WAS TEMPORARILY CORRECTED AFTER THE ENGINE WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED. THREE COMPLAINTS INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. IN ADDITION, ODI HAS RECEIVED 15 COMPLAINTS ALLEGING SAFETY CONCERNS WITH HARSH SHIFTING EITHER DURING LOW SPEED PARKING MANEUVERS, WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR DURING UPSHIFTS/DOWNSHIFTS AT SPEED. A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION HAS BEEN OPENED TO ASSESS THE FREQUENCY AND SAFETY CONSEQUENCES OF THE DSG TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS.

Also, when I searched under BMW for an investigation related to our transmissions, I came up empty. Appears that NTHSA no longer is concerned with the DCT. I wrote in to Emily and asked what the status was with our complaint.

Well it seems our advocate at U.S. DOT NHTSA, Emily, is departing (although after her initial E-Mail after I filed my complaint, I never did hear from her again anyway); refer to her E-Mail to me today:

"After this week I will no longer be in this office and my e-mail will be phased out. Therefore, if you have any other responses or questions, please contact Ajit Alkondon at ajit.alkondon@dot.gov. Thank you so much for all of your time and information. Have a great day. Emily Reichard"

So what did Ajit Alkondon have to say on the essence of your question? Or there is no responce yet?

Now I know where Emily went (quote from the news today):
"Congress only set aside about a month for the program to get up and running and picked the National Highway Transpiration Safety Administration, which specializes in road safety and vehicle recalls, to run it. The agency, known as NHTSA, had never run a program like this before. It devoted 30 employees and 200 contractors to handle the program — and they were swamped almost from the moment dealers' applications began rolling in."
She got assigned to the Cash-For-Clunkers program, processing dealer submissions

I think it's normal to have flaws on a new system

but for Germans to not have fixed this by now, someone is making very poor decisions or being lazy, both are not excuses

When you are one of a very small minority for whom the last update has not eliminated the auto downshift lag it may be prudent to consider that the DCT is not the problem.

I agree. It's still there but is considerably better.

SI B 28 07 08 (attached) pretty much says BMW has finally acknowledged the issue, and is making available updated software to fix the issue. I'm sure in future updates they will further refine the logic... I have faith in the Germans!

Yes, but the "refinement SIB" was first rumored for release in Sept, now maybe in Oct

Unfortunately I have less faith in BMWAG after owning a 2007 335i E93 that had the fluttering/buffeting noise that was never corrected by their trunk lid foam filling SIB. Refer to Thread: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=218612

This SIB fails to address the issue adequately. My car will exhibit the lag in any mode including S6 with DSC off.

How's this for logic... program the DCT to do what the driver wants it to do, when the driver wants it to do it?!?!?!?! The only things the DriveLogic should do are prevent from accidental over-revving, prevent stalling at a stop, and blip the throttle for rev matching upon downshifts. That's it. Why does it have to be so f*cking complicated?

PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR VIN# or it's meaninglss, per Radiation Joe. Thanks.
It only takes 5 minutes to file a complaint.

If they get a few hundred complaints, then they make take a look at this. They're the reason we go the first fix, otherwise, I'm sure BMW would have called no downshifts during braking, "a design characteristic and normal behavior for the M DCT transmission."

UPDATED:

They're sending out E-mails to get more info, so we may be making some progress on this issue. PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT!!

Here's a letter I sent. Feel free to copy or make appropriate changes.

What about if your car is registered in Canada? I'm experiencing the same lag.

Agree. It really only needs to have two S modes and two D modes. That's basically what the non-M BMWs with DCT have. Drivelogic might not have anything to do with the buggy parts of the software that cause the lag, but on the other hand it really can't help to have so much needless complexity in the system. At the very least it makes testing fixes much more involved.
