I'm with you on the chrome - can't stand chrome anything (wheels, trim, grill, faux side vents).
I like black rims, but I like matte black. Not a fan of the gloss painted black, especially combined with a chrome lip.

agree with you on the chrome lips.

I am a fan though of black rims....depends on the color of the car though IMO.

+1 on crome lips/bkack rims. Polished lip on silver or polished wheels is ok though. I think all black rims are the 'anti-chrome' of wheels. It is just the current trend. I prefer the gunmetal look, something in between.

Meh. Chrome lips aren't horrible. Neither are black wheels. They're just trendy. They'll get old soon.

You must hate the 911 GT2's wheels.

There's just something sick about a black car with black face/chrome lips. I guess it just mainly depends on what car its on and what kind of wheel design.

Since we are on the subject, I cannot stand Carbon Fiber rims. Think its the tackiest thing I've ever seen.

Personally, I like polished/shiny rims with painted centers on modern cars, and polished/chrome rims on classics. I also like moderate use of chrome trim as an accent on both classic AND modern cars.

prime example, my own daily driver E38:

And of course, my favorite car, the '63-64 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso:

I hate chrome lips. I also don't like rims with deep lips. Come to think of it, I seldomly like aftermarket rims.

I agree too. I whole concept of carbon fiber rims amazes me. It is too risky. The rims could shatter.

So, you basically like modern FWD cars with high positive offset wheels, not the traditionalist RWD car with deeper offsets, like the Ferrari I posted?

You must be 14.

Me? I grew up on deep polished rims:

I always make an exception for Ferrari. I'm more of a purist. I don't really like modding that changes the exterior look of a car. Some aftermarket rims I do like, but a majority just aren't my taste.

I also don't approve of modding a car yourself...

I've had this view for awhile now, not a fan of the chrome lip. I think it makes the rim look smaller. Now a lip painted the same color as the wheel i like but haven't been feeling the chrome or polished lip for a few years now, seems played out.

With few exceptions, production cars are mass produced compromises designed by committee, and then modified for production. And with few exceptions, i can't think of a mass produced compromise that can' tbe made better, or at least more individual, and less "off the rack."

Of course if you like living in a community of identical tract houses, and making sure you wear the exact same clothes as all the people in your clique, then I guess it makes sense to leave a mass produced car stock, like all the rest.

That's only because you're young and haven't learned the skills yet. I've built cars nearly from the ground up, but as hot rods and as race cars. And of course, I modded my E38 myself (not to the extent of my '63 Mercury Comet convertible, which is getting a custom frame, custom suspension, and a modded Lexus 4.0 liter DOHC V8)

That's because the chrome/polished lip like in my car, has been a style that has been around for, oh, 5 decades... Of course, painted wheels have been around that long or longer, too, so they must be "played out." As have factory wheels. What's left? Hmmm...
