Dealers are idiots

Went by Bmw of Montgomery to see the JzB paint. I spoke with a woman about possibly getting a better deal and she tried to tell me DCT wasn't available yet. When I told her about people already taking delivery, she thought I was a moron. WTF

They do that kind of crap all the time. Sometimes I feel like we know more than them. They need to be more educated in the cars they sell. If you don't know tjhe answer, find out! Don't give us BS we are not fools!

OK

one salesperson told me comfort access was a stand alone option and another told me sunroof was standard on ALL M3s

this was after I had just told them the opposite.

I was like better to keep your mouth shut because you don't know jack.

When this happens I never know if the person is just a fool or a liar...I tend to think that they do actually know better...but are just lying in order to get a quick sale...either way...it makes me want to walk

It could be that management didnt give their sales people the updates. Could be possible that they did but she just didnt bother to read the memo. But to be fair, we probably know a lot more and well ahead of time than many of the dealers out there simply because we have a lot of resources.

Dealers are big dildos. alot act like they've got all the knowledge. I bet that flys with your average BMW buyer but they're nothing average about an M buyer. Shit I had those specs and option codes memorized before walking into the dealer only to have that fool tell me how special these cars are..not shit...

Premium. The manual now calls it "Convenient" Access.

Please oh Please.. Do not defend them.
I went to the dealer on the day of the vehicle release and the pin head of my CA told me that DCT was not a viable option until next year. Then I get a call the next week to place my DCT order.

I mean lets be serious BMW has very few cards in the grad scheme of things, and they should know what they are selling.

If I had only known what an idiot this guy was when I first placed my name on the waiting list 2 years ago I would have walked away from that place running.

My dealer was an idiot too. I think that most of the sales people are really just there to collect a paycheck. No passion whatsover for the product.

This thread is so funny only cause its so damn true. We actually do know more than many of them do. I'm sure anyone of us would do a better job than some of them do.

There are some good BMW salesmen out there but my experience with most is similar to the OP. I've caught them in lies, misinformation or misinformed statements. I had ordered a 2002 M3. When the dealer got an M3 (December '07 IIRC) that had the manual I got to test drive it. But when I said I did not want to get this one because I wanted SMG the salesman gave me some crap that BMW was having problems with SMG.

You can find good ones. And here and other forums online are probably good places to look.

While my dealer rep didn't know the details of how MDCT worked, he was not afraid to tell me so and actually asked me a couple questions about it. This was a 4-6 weeks ago and MDCT was fairly new to the dealers, so I didn't mind his lack of knowledge because he wasn't afraid to say "I don't know".

If a person admits that he does not know the details of something and doesn't spew ignorant statements at me I have respect for him. In this case, the rep is so nice my dad bought a 535xi from him just few weeks ago.

If anybody is looking for a nice dealership and a good salesman in the Allentown, PA area let me know I'll give you his name.

I see it like this. I fly helicopters for a living. You bet your ass I know that aircraft from nose to tail. If I sold BMWs for a living, being a professional, I'm sure I'd know as much as possible about what I'm selling. And they're a lot less complicated than a helicopter

I wonder if BMW NA checks in on dealers. You'd think it would be in their best interest to make sure the people selling their brand are knowledgeable...

That is exactly what I am talking about, all I ask is that they know what it is that they are selling and not be completely ignorant. I know there are some good people out there and those are probably here and my apologies that you are in the same line of work and being compared to the other idiots out there.

Agree. And if BMW wanted to get serious about upgrading their sales staff, the Company should require each salesperson to take a written exam (once a year) on the current years models to ensure they possess satisfactory knowledge of the vehicles they are selling ( maybe a simple multiple choice test with multiple parts - each part representing a different model/series). The sales people would be prohibited from selling until they pass all parts of the exam. This should provide the incentive for the sales team members to increase their knowledge on the products they sell, or go do something else for a living. Either way, the customers win.
