AMS, hands down. I know this has been but I don't care. No other FMIC has better flow characteristics and keeps the weight down. HPF is comparable for flow, but then again you are adding more weight way up in front of the front axle. Nothing is as light as stock, but nothing works better and keeps the weight as low as possible as compared to AMS. If you think square end tanks and 2.25" connectors is "good flow" you need to consider your bias and IQ.

This is the first time I heard weight being a factor in an intercooler purchase which is designed to cool air not reduce weight.... Why not instead purchase some carbon fiber parts and purchase an intercooler based on cooling efficiency?

To the threadstarter, this subject has been beaten to death. Perhaps you need to look around because there are many intercoolers that work great. It just depends on what your looking for out of them.

I could perhaps shed some more light if you want to PM me, but I need to know your budget, if you plan on modifying your vehicle, keeping your stock charge pipes, and all that jazz.

If you don't understand weight reduction, you might want to consider a new career. There is no better modification for performance than weight... or lack there-of. I guess, unless you are referring to dynos....

the difference between a 22 pound IC and a 15 pound IC should not make a difference to the normal person. now a set of oem wheels compared to some bbs wheels might be able to tell a difference.

intercooler is for performance. what do you want next. a lightweight set of wires for your tune.

If you are looking for a weight reduction FMIC than you better just keep the stock one!! stock 335i FMIC are super light weight.

If you want everything light weight than get a bike!! 335i is not for you...

Yea so anyway. A lighter intercooler given the same dimension as a heavier intercooler just means that the cores are different internally. If you've done your homework on intercoolers you would know there are several types of intercooler designs, ranging from your typical bar and plate design, or tube and fin design ETC

Air flow is only one characterstic of intercoolers. (I'm trying to leave mathematics out of this discussion as I feel it will just derail things further.) If you flow the air past the intercooler to fast the cooling benefits go down drastically. On the other side of the spectrum if you want to cool the air the most you want to slow down the air, in turn you increase the pressure drop, cause lag, and above all else make the turbo's work harder to meet target.

All of this adds up mathematically to a happy medium between air flow, and cooling. You have one more then the other and you are missing the "efficiency" of an intercooler.

So as i stated previously, if you are shopping intercoolers based on weight, then you are likely shopping intercoolers based on CHEAP, non efficient cores, and therefore you are shopping incorrectly if you think the idea of an intercooler modifications main purpose is to reduce weight.

I'm sorry but you have it entirely wrong. Weight savings is great but in the right places.
