Who in Los Angeles has 6MT not DCT!?
Regarding Los Angeles traffic I am becoming more paranoid by the day that it was a mistake to order my car in 6MT! I ordered 6MT because I love having a third pedal, but this car is going to be my daily driver and as I said I'm becoming more paranoid by the day that the 6MT is going to frustrate the crap out of me after a short while....

I'm in LA alot and regardless of manual or DCT, you'll be frustrated by the traffic.

I'm in LA and just got my first manual car ever, a lightly modded E90 M3, and I don't regret the decision to go with manual at all. And this is from someone who did not know how to drive stick until a few weeks ago. I'm still very much in early learning stages, but manual is way more engaging than DCT in my view. Yes, LA has annoying traffic (as does every major city) but it also has lots of twisty canyon and mountain roads within city limits that make for very rewarding drives.

How are you liking it so far? Would be interested in comparing notes. I picked up my M3 (it was a lease transfer from another user on this site) exactly one week ago. Before that, I found a rental manual beater from Rent A Wreck In North Hollywood and practiced on that for a week, so I'm pretty much an absolute beginner at driving manual. I have a long, long way to go on the learning curve but it's been a blast so far, interspersed with a few hairy moments.

I've been driving in the LA traffic for the past 10 years with a manual. My 2008 M3 was a 6mt. One coming is dct. We'll see what happens. It is a pain in my ass shifting in traffic. My commute only consists of local driving. 9 mi route takes one hour!!

To be honest. It's not the driving of the manual that makes me mad. It's the other drivers. The manual in the m3 is soft so it's not that hard to drive around. I just wanted to try something new. I will miss getting on those freeway on ramps when there's no traffic though! I will get back to you once I get the new car and see if dct makes a difference or not. Now if I could just get rid of the other drivers on the road I would be set!

It all depends on your commute. I can avoid the freeways entirely which helps a lot. My commute consists almost entirely of twisty roads thru the Hollywood Hills.
The fastest car for freeway commutes is one that entitles you to use the carpool lanes, like a Nissan Leaf. |

A good friend of mine, forum member Shmelgy, lives in Beverly Hills and daily drove a 6MT ZCP E92 with no trouble. Then again, he is a die hard 6MT lover.
It all depends on your willingness to deal with the clutch, and how often you lock yourself in bumper to bumper traffic.

lol, same here (drove DCT during an M Power event while I still had the 6MT, so went w/ DCT on the next lease).

6MT here, as well as being my first manual. Shifting from 1->2 is a little difficult, but other than that...its brilliant. Just recently taught myself to heel/toe (after learning to rev match obviously) with the help of some fellow m3post/e90 members. And traffic for me isnt an issue...it keeps my mind more engaged than a mundane automatic in traffic....
