Apex ARC-8 18x10 Square setup with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 275/35/18

My track setup.

Some photos of the new rims/tires compared to the OEM set. Fronts have about 3/4 inch clearance at full steering lock. The come out flush with the fender when straight.

Wheels 19.95 lbs each.

Thanks to ACG San Diego for looking after me. Awesome shop!!

if this is your track set up, why are you running Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta?

go with NT-05 if you want street/track tires

I've read a lot of good stuff about the Vreds, I want to see how they will hold up with track/autox.

Sure is!! Just got back from Streets at willow today. I ran this setup. It worked very well. A lot of fun and a lot of track time. Driving Concepts hosted. Great Instructors.

Nice set-up.
I'd be interested to hear how you like them as a track tire.

They're not bad for track. They feel just as grippy as the PS2's were and seem to be less susceptible to chunking. Unfortunately I can't make a direct comparison because I changed from staggered to square setup (and wider tires as well), so I'm getting a lot more oversteer than I remember with the PS2 staggered setup. The oversteer however is very predictable and controllable.

I think I'd like to compare them with Nitto Nt01s next time with the same square setup.

Nice, I'm thinking about doing just that for next month, the Arc-8 s along with the nt-01s. Glad your liking them. Also glad I didn't get the stock 18's, paying more and getting a dedicated setup seems like a far better option.

I put 275/35 Vreds on my stock rears as well. I brought both oem rears, as spares, to streets at willow just in case I hit a flat on the way.

Do they get greasy when they get hot? I almost slid off at Willow once when the PS2's just wouldn't grip.

I was pushing pretty hard but no major sliding.

However, I kept DSC on all the time at Streets for 2 reasons,

a) I wanted to work on my smoothness, with it off I usually spend a lot more time rear end out and working to control the car (which is a lot of fun, but not my goal for the day). You can tell very quickly with DSC on, how smoothness helps based on the speed that you can get around a given corner. Too much DSC interruption and a lot of time is lost waiting for the nanny to give back the gas pedal.

b) the cars were allowed run a lot closer together than any event I've been at before. I didn't want to spin out with some some guy on my ass.

Hey Paddy,

Do they come close to rubbing? Do you think I can fit 295s in the back?

What offsets are your rims and do you have any spacers?

Thanks!
