Something one should check once in a while

Have a read and check it out next time you tank. Someone send this to me ....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you put the gas nozzel into your tank and pull the trigger, listen ... You will see the numbers adding up, but there is no sound of the gas going into your tank for about 3 seconds or about 15-20 cents worth. Strange!
What next?
Stop at 10 litres and check the price - read on and you will understand ... cheating at the gas pumps.
This happened to travelers somewhere in Ridgetown on their way to Kingston. The pump should have totalled @ $38.00 (and change). When the receipt was printed, and they checked it was $47.00 (and change). They got mad, went inside the store, asked for a calculator and let them do the math. They refunded the money.So print and check the receipt.
We saw on the news the other night that this is happening everywhere.
There is also a number on each pump that you can call the MTO and complain.
Here is how to check a pump to see if you are getting the right amount:
Whichever grade you are using, put EXACTLY 10 LITERS in your tank, then look at the dollar amount. If the dollar amount is not EXACTLY 10 times the price of the fuel you have chosen, then the pumps are rigged.
It doesn't matter where you pump gas, please check the 10 liter price. If you do find a station that is cheating, contact the MTO, and direct your comments to the Commissioner, the info is on the gas pumps.
add one cent to the advertised price when doing the math. Thats what that stupid 9/10ths as the end of the price is for, makes you think its just a hair cheaper.
Out of curiosity over gas price fluctations, I actually track price per gallon and how much I fill up every time I top off a tank. Luckily, the math always adds up to what I was charged. I did stop going to one of my usual stations, though, since they are now a Citgo. What annoys me most is that they were very conveniently located and they don't turn on the light behind the Citgo part of their street sign at night.
The US should have gone Metric years ago ... not having done it just costs you and me more at the store my friend.
If you are really asking the above question then let me help you out;
One (1) Litre = 0.26417205 US Gallon
One (1) US Gallon = 3.7854118 Litre
Litre (or Liter as spelled in the US).
The litre (International spelling as used by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures) or liter (American spelling) (SI symbols l or L) is a non-SI metric system unit of volume equal to 1 cubic decimetre (dm), 1,000 cubic centimetres (cm) or 1/1,000 cubic metre. A cubic decimetre (or litre) occupies a volume of 10×10×10 centimetres
Most pumps are no longer mechanical but controlled by software. As such, it's possible to gouge but ensure the numbers even out at the obvious marks such as 1, 10, 20 gallons.
I wouldn't aim for exact numbers. Instead fill up and use a calculator. It's not that hard.
Gas stations aren't allowed to cheat here in the US. Our government protects us from such things.
It would be less risky for them to have it say it pumped a certain amount when it actually pumped less. Have the pump display read gallons pumped x a factor of 1.05 for example and same for the price. That way the math would still work out. They know that people are going to be doing the math but nobody is going to drain their tank and measure its contents twice just to see if they're getting screwed out of a few dimes.
THISSSS! Not only are we protected, the government actually allows us to pay extra for this added security!
With that being said, pretty sure I've been scammed by Canadians when purchasing gas.
Pumps are inspected at random and on a regular basis and stiff penalties are applied if businesses are found shorting the consumer.
