CA not working...

This is misinformation. The Comfort Access Battery, is not rechargeable. You are correct about that. There is a rechargeable battery in the FOB itself. So you most definitely do need to plug your key into the vehicle.

All of the SAs I have talked to have said this is the biggest piece of misinformation floating around the forums.

If this is true though, what is the point of the CA? If BMW allows you to use the car without having to put the key in then why would they make it so you need to recharge it by putting it in?

I didn't start a thread about this. I just commented a few times about my experience and what I learned. The tint installer told me about the memo that Huper Optik put out about slicing the back window film on BMWs (which I confirmed by calling the company) and the TSB from BMW was releyed to me by the service manager of my dealership.

Some people say they have problems...Some dont. I did.
You have to decide whether you want to roll the dice or play it safe. The only downside is, if your car reacts poorly to ceramic, remember what has to be done to remove the tint! It's not something you want to do too often.

You put the key in the ignition when going through and automatic car wash. You would follow the instructions below. Here is also a picture of a remote with CA.

I've had the tint and ST on this car after 1 week of ownership, no problems with CA until recently (a week or so)

It's been pretty cold lately...for us... at around 40-50 degrees lol.

I used it to get my m3 back to life when the battery life

Def need to get a good tender. Leaving a jump starter on for long is no good.

Yeah, hence why I remove it after only about 10-20 mins, not even that long

Btw, i have another I forgot lol. I keep thinking it's OEM

I have a rear camera set up, but I also got that right when I got the car...so I don't think it's an issue?

If the battery dies in your fob, I believe you can still insert it into the dash to start the car.

So if you keep reading the Comfort Access section, which begins on page 33, you'll eventually get to page 35 where the subsection "Malfunction" includes the sentence "To start the engine afterward, insert the remote control into the ignition lock".

Since they don't number the sections, it's hard to tell other than by the subtle size difference of the heading font that the Comfort Access section spans 3 pages :-/

I've known for a while that cars with CA the keys were not rechargeable and you had to replace it. One of the first things I've read in the manuals.

Not sure why the SA's would say it. 90% of them don't even know what the manual says anyway, so I take what they say with a grain of salt.

Bingo. That's it. Just make sure it says Battery Tender PLUS on it. It makes absolutely no noise whatsoever. I use to use it for my bike. What's great about this is that it has a 4 step/stage charging cycle.

Car officially went crazy today

While my mom was driving to work (in the canyons no less), she got this (I told her to take pics if something ever happens lol)

So I drive to her work to see what's up (fortunately she was able to make it there) and well, first thing I did was see if BMW Assist could come out

FAIL.....

Fortunately, I never rely on them anyways... So I brought my portable jump starter
I hooked it up for about 15-20 minutes
Pressed SOS and it worked. Yay

But they said since it's thanksgiving..I'm SOL as if they took it to a dealer, it would just sit there X.x...

I ended up just saying screw them and drove it home..only to have a CEL come on:

I was going to scan it but I've been lazy, and it's thanksgiving and I had family to see today

so I have had it hooked up to the battery tender i recently got for the other day; going on about 7 hours now.

Went from red (charging) to red and green flashing (80%).

Hope it all works out...

I've also turned off my SmartTop for the time being. I'm going to remove the trim in the back and take the Module off and replace it with this little thing Tom@EAS gave me (it does the same thing as the module in off mode, but the module itself is removed... not too good at explaining things..but it basically makes it so it's as if the ST was never there)
