I would be happy if only the US adopt the EU general highway speed limit, around 85mph. (which is not high at all!!)

That would be great.. but the US is making too much money off of us with the low speed limits. The US has a habit of introducing something to help the country as a whole then realize that they make a big profit from it and never change it. Speed limits and income taxes jump to mind. We the people have so much say don't we.

What are the accident rates on the autobahn compared to that of US highways?

No idea, but I doubt there is THAT much difference.

One key is lane discipline here is Germany is amazing. It is really like the wild west on highways in the US. People going a wide variety of speeds in whatever lane they like. On the Autobahn, it is not allowed to pass on the right, slow traffic stays to the right, and cars are quick to move out of your way if you are approaching fast.
