Tip the SA?
I'm picking up my car from the dealer, but I just thought, "am I suppose to tip him?" My car is stock and went in for service.

I actually tip mine a $10 or a $20 sometimes. It works out for preferential loaner car treatment, free top offs, pushing the car through quicker, etc in my experience.
But you definitely dont have to. Just if you think the person goes above and beyond the call of duty.

No on the cash, yes on a bottle of something once a year during the holidays (like some Scotch or Champagne).
They're supposed to perform their job to the utmost and I feel a little $5, $10 or $20 tip would be insulting. A bottle on the other hand, shows you actually thought of them and went out of your way to give them something that shows them you appreciate their efforts and care.

This is the strange thing for me - we have been to America twice for vacation and it seems that everyone in the US expects a tip.
I fully agree with some of the other comments, why tip someone if they are paid to do their job? Its not like they are doing you a favour, its their job. In South Africa we usually only tip waiters. |

No chance at a dealer.
Now I will concede that at an indy shop if they do good timely work and the quote comes out to say 180 I will just pay them 200. This typically gets me better service in the future. The only reason I do it is to make things easier for me in the future.
