M3 vs M6 vs GTR for nxt car

Hi first post here been reading and following through alot of peoples threads. I currently drive a CLK550 very good car fast and comfortable, looking to upgrade hopefully by next year. I am Looking at for next year getting either a 09 DCT m3, 07 m6 and if it falls into my price range a 09 GTR. The car will be used as a daily driver, probably not tracked but possibly dragged few times in its lifetime. These are some pros and cons i feel towards each car if anyone can help me out with my decision it will be greatly appreciated.
-I love the m6 beautiful car but I am turned off that they are making a new one soon so by the time I get one it will look very outdated.
-The GTR I know is the fastest of the group, which is a huge turn on to me but the whole 8000$ for pads and rotors and warrenty worries scare me.
-I love the look of the m3, I know it is a great well rounded performer but I am worried it is not much faster then my car now, espicially seeing that many people only run low 13s in 1/4 mile. As a side question do simple boltons void its warrenty?

Every single car has it's flaws. The GTR's maintenance is a nightmare (2 friends work for Nissan, 1 is a GM, 1 is a master tech), if you purchase the M6 you will become best friends with your local gas station, and the M3 is the slowest out of the group. Then again, the GTR is the best performer out of the group, the M6 looks are breathtaking, and the M3 uses the least amount of gas. I'm sure other members will chime in.

yea its true they all have advantages and disadvantages the GTR was on top of my list untill I read about the maitenance troubles and tranny problems. I love the m3 just am scared as far as straight line perfomance its not much of a upgrade for me. Also the m6 is great but since they are making a new one im not sure if i will even consider it anymore. Also does anyone know an asnwer to my side question if simple boltons void warrenty on the m3.

Well, M6 is also heavy. M6 and M3 look better, GTR is a beast. All three are great, depends on what the op values. With bolt-ons people are running the M3 in low 12's. 13's is fairly high for a stock car btw, 12.5-12.8 is a better range for close to stock.

In theory anything can void your warranty, in most cases if your carefull warranty with bolt-ons should be intact. Lots of variables here, which dealership, what failed, etc... In general BMW of N America wants to keep you happy.

Given your current car and description of what you are looking for, I'd go GTR. Both the M3 and M6 will feel somewhat strange in comparison to the CLK550, in that they both lack low end torque and really need to be revved hard to get the performance out of them.

GT-R on the other hand has huge torque, probably would be closest in terms of power delivery to your current car, is the fastest car in a straight line of the group, will beat the others around a track and will still perform well in the wet...

M6 is ugly. Especially that trunk.

GTR over M3 if you can afford it.

Get the GTR. I had an M6 and it was the least favorite car I've owned. It was big yet had no room, it was quick but didn't handle well. The car is a mess.

Thanks alot for the feedback guys in my mind I feel like im set gtr at top then m3 and last is m6. How bad is the GTR maitenance and warrenty really? I understand basic maitenance such as tires and oil changes but 8k for rotor and pads is just rediculous. And yes the 550 engine has tremendous low end power throughout the entire band which is nice. Also the m3 would be coupe. Straightline perfomance is more important to me because I do not plan to track my car although handling is important as well.

Garage List
If you need space in the rear it's got to be the M3.

If you are wanting the ultimate expression of speed, handling and unbelieveable ability then it's got to be the GTR.

If you simply want to go quickly in a straight line and don't need the most space or are too interested in trackdays then the M6.

reading all this shit about the GTR makes me even more worried now which sucks because I love the car and perfomance. I would like to add that I am only 22 and will be trading in my old car when the time is right and paying for the rest with a loan so I will not be able to afford crazy maintenance cost. How is maitenance on the m3? Also does anyone have any idea when the new m6 is supposed to be released? Also I know the DCT m3 runs 0-60 in low 4s with launch control how does it fair without launch control and also does launching it void the warrenty like on the GTR and how about reliability after launches?

P.S I dont care about my passengers comfort lol

Even without LC the GTR will absolutely destroy an M3. And all the maintenance and warranty issues are completely blown out of proportion.
I have 15000 miles on my GTR and have had 3 scheduled services without costing me a dime.
I you like the GTR don't let these uninform scare stories stop you from buying one.

BTW here's me just screwing around power braking the GTR (and X6M). No LC in this vid.

impressive videos how accurate is that meter because those times are crazy in the GTR considering you didnt use LC. What did the scheduled services cover? I know changing the tranny fluid alone is 2k and every other year the pads and rotors 8k. What would you say is typical maitenance cost I should be expecting over 3-4 years of ownership considering I drive about 5k miles a year spirited driving but not abusive.

Its a GTech meter and I think the times are fairly close. I tested the unit out on my old E46 M3 (my buddy bought it from me) and got 4.8-5.0 on the 60mph time with it hit the quarter in 13.3-13.5 at 102-105ish. I also tested my Cayenne GTS and it hit 60 in 6 flat quarter in 14.2 @ 98. So I think its on.
Remember though that a 1' roll gives a .2-.3 second advantage to 60 (most US car mags use that decpetive number).
As far as maintanence I'll try and find sheets they gave me and see what was done. It might have just been oil.

So in the 15k that you have on your GTR the only maitenance you had to be done was oil? This is the only big fear I have of the car other then that its incredible.

Yes. I thought there was suppose to be some massive scheduled maintenance at 12k but there wasn't. My next service is suppose to be a 19k.
The car has its flaws but overall its the best sports car I have owned.

The maintenance and warranty issues are so incredibly overblown imo. No surprise when you consider how controversial the car is.

Just check in with Nissan corporate before modding. Don't use LC in the way they prohibit. Other than that... it's a well built car. Especially as a non-track daily driver.

If you were going to hardcore track it then it might be expensive if something happened and they had to lift out the entire engine to do repairs and such. But no worries for a DD.

M3 Coupe DCT 6.0/10
M6 SMG 7.5/10
GT-R 3.5/10

This is how I look at it. My brother has a 6MT M6 and I have a 6MT M3.. Yes his car Is pretty badass and flashy, but I love driving my M3 x10 more.. The GT-R is a pretty dry car if you are a real M enthusiast.
-The GT-R is = boredom, after a couple months of having fun.

I really appreciate all the feedback im getting, this forum is great really helping me with my decision. Alittle more info on my intentions I will be planning to daily drive the car If i get a GTR it will stay stock if a m3 possibly do bolton mods after some time with the car. I may drag it once or twice in its life time but other then that only spirited driving. I have searched for maitenance cost of the GT-R but am not sure how accurate my results are, considering I will be buynig the car 2 years old, what maitenanance cost should I be expecting?
