M4? Maybe... I'm sure it's going to look badass, but will the ///M division be allowed to make a special car? It appears the Accounting and Marketing departments may be gaining a little to much sway in Munich. Sure, the new M4 will sell really well, but will the new voices at BMW rest too much on ///M divisions reputation? If they slap an ///M badge on a less then stellar vehicle, they will eventually end up losing customers.
Yes, gas prices are getting higher and turbo provides cheap power, but where is the innovation in the M4's engine? ///M has long been known for special engines and yes, the engine in the M4 is a fine piece of engineering, but it is no longer cutting edge engineering. AMG is keeping the V8, Ford's V8 Coyote is special and gets excellent millage. BMW seems to be going backwards. Who buys an M to sip on gas? Apparently the customers BMW marketing is targeting. [-JetFalcons Dad!] The gas sippers can have their regular 3 and 4 series. Let ///M Division off the leash. Anyways, I wasn't planning on ranting... More excited about the M2 right now (see it's not just a big V8 I'm interested in), and as a class of 2013 owner; I've got plenty of time to let BMW help me decide where and with whom to spend.

Since I'm a sedan kind of guy, I'll add an F80 to the E90 at some point. definitely not the first year, and I'll probably wait for the inevitable LCI.

I'll pass. M's peaked with the current e92. Porsche has had turbo six's figured out for some time now. BMW not so much. More cylinders > less for us. The only thing which could eclipse my current M3 might be a Shelby GT500. Possibly an M6, though I don't see a $120k car in my near future.

I will probably get the M4 in a couple of years and turn the E92 M3 into a dedicated track car.

I'll wait until the new model has been out a few years to make sure the bugs are worked out and then compare against the new Z06 and GT3. I am not a turbo fan after having owned a 2007 335 but keeping an open mind on the tri turbo.

Same here. If all of M is going turbo, I'd rather go smaller/lighter if I get another M some day.

I'm disappointed that while many of their direct or indirect competitors are sticking with a V8, BMW thinks it can be successful downsizing the engine to a 6. One of the reasons I went to the M3 from my 335 was missing the responsiveness (and sound) of NA. I also just don't get why BMW needs to make every generation bigger. The current 3 is a decent enough size, if possibly too big. I guess I'll wait and see, but right now I'd say the odds of making the switch are doubtful.

I'll have to drive it and see the final thing to know for sure, but from what we've seen of the 4 series so far and the rumor mill, I'm disappointed by the larger size and rumors of the demise of the V8. Looking forward to seeing what the M2 will be like, and might look at AMG more closely next time.
So far my 2012 E92 has not even 5k miles, so I'm planning to keep it for a few more years. If it holds up mechanically and ages well maybe for quite a while longer. |

In 2018 I may think about buying a used 2016 M4 Gran Coupe. Hopefully there's a special edition of each car for BMW's 100th anniversary.
