What's this sticking out between my wheel and tire?

These are sticking out on all 4 corners; the driver's side front is the worst. At first, I thought it was metal because it has rust stains on it, but it seems to be plastic. I've never seen anything like this on a tire, so is it coming from the wheel? I pulled on it a little and it didn't budge, but I didn't want to hurt anything because I don't have a clue what it is.

I had the same thing in one of the tires. It was like a plastic sticking out. I pulled it and nothing has happened.

I first thought it was a seal or something, but the tire maintains the air

You don't give much information--new tires? New car? I don't know offhand, but i think it would be safe to pull hard with pliers. Alternatively, cut carefully with a sharp razor knife, avoiding cutting into the tire..

Not a new car, and this is my second set of tires. I never saw anything like this with the first set. I'll try and get a better picture.

I had the same thing on one of my tires, but the plastic thingy wasn't as long. Probably nothing to worry about.

You're right. I looked at the other side and I can barely make out a bar code; most of it has been rubbed off. I tried pulling it out with some pliers, but it just broke. I'm guessing they're coming out when the tires start to heat up.

This is the back side

I had to use a razor to remove one.
