Making stereo volume louder?

Is there any way to make the idrive 2009 volume any louder? Some songs play relatively loud and then when I'm watching a DVD or music video it comes in low sometimes not all of the time. Was just wondering if there is anyway to make it louder. It's te standard not upgraded system.

This is an encoding volume issue, not so much an iDrive volume issue. For example, if the DVD is encoded in Dolby Digital then the iDrive will have to decode it to 2-channel stereo for playback and most of the time that will have a much lower volume than a native stereo encoding.

I would guess that BMW saved a couple of cents per unit by simply not adding a volume normalization feature to the OEM HU/iDrive. Even the Premium (MOST) OEM amp does not normalize the volume of different sources, and that's all digital up to the analog output phase.

You could normalize the volume (making it sound at the same relative level) of all your sources by yourself, but that will involve getting dedicated software for that. At least the iPod have it built in -Sound Check- and MP3 songs can be normalized with MP3Gain, but DVD will have to be copied and then manipulated for you to normalize the volume to match the other source levels.

So is it music video's? because what you can do is download them via dirpy.com straight from youtube. and you can choose your coding.

let me know if this helps
