Ticketed for driving too slow on GW Parkway

I was just cruising on GW Prkwy on my way home last night around 1130 when I noticed a US Park Police was behind me. He followed me for a good 3-4 miles, cruising between 50-55mph on the 50mph zone when he finally turned on his lights. So I pulled over to the side and as soon as he got to my car he started yelling asking me why I was driving to slow impeding traffic when there was really none. He told me he gave me a citation and expect it in the mail next week.
Anybody have an idea how much this will cost me. I know there is a Slow Speed Law, but I didn't think i was driving slow enough to warrant this citation.

that just sounds BS. Why would it be in the mail. it could be easily disputed, just tell them it wasn't you. lol. no signature no evidence to prove it was you. Say it was your ghost.

that's complete bullshit. I'm sure there is a minimum speed limit on the GW Parkway but it's sure as hell not 50 mph. IIRC the MAX speed on it is 55 almost all the way through (haven't lived there in 10 years so pls correct me if I'm wrong)

fight it in court and make sure he gets a nice complaint in his personnel folder for his trouble

He got all my info. This is the first I've heard of mailing you the citation instead of giving it on the spot, but difinitely will fight it in court.

I think he was trying to catch me speeding when he was following me, but when I didn't he got pissed and got me instead for this bull.

Yeah, I agree things don't make sense. I hope he wasn't a fake cop - you should check with the US Park Police to see if your stop and/or ticket is real? Also, perhaps you should report this incident to them as well - I would!

If it's real then, like others have already suggested, go to court and fight this stupid ticket.

Which lane were you in? If you were in the left lane, can't say I don't agree with the police officer. I was on the parkway at 11:15, doing 50-55 in the right lane, with no problem. Not in my M3 though. Holding up the left lane, well that is annoying as hell.

I was in the left lane, but my speed was between 50-55mph. Now if I was driving 5-10 below the speed limit, then I deserve to be pulled over.

not that you are supposed to be in the left lane in the first place
but if you are,and a car comes behind you
that car has right of way, you should move over to the right lane.
since if he wants to overtake you he can't use the right lane.

Isn't the US park police part of the federal government? I know when i have gotten a citation before they mailed me a "pay this" ticket. But the officer gave me a copy of the citation (this was a parking ticket tho). I wouldn't worry about it, most of the time they are not reported to the state.

What you were actually doing is impeding traffic, this is a violation. Not to mention, you were holding up the lane and would not let the officer pass. No wonder he was pissed.

Always let whoever is behind you pass, especially late at night in a nice car, otherwise you are setting yourself up for a bad situation, from road rage, to car jacking to a ticket.

I think the officer is just jealous of your car. I got pulled over around 2 months ago for speeding. I was on a one lane road with TWO cars in front of me, and I was just matching their speed (so they were going around 40mph in the 25mph zone as well). However, I was the one who the officer pulled over, and he clearly saw them before he saw me (since he was around the corner of a turn). Not to mention, he asked me if I had been drinking and made me do a sobriety test and breathlyzer (it was 9pm and I was coming from a neighborhood road). Still got a speeding ticket.

This is the problem with driving our cars. Lots of people get jealous and go out of their way to cause us trouble. I've also gotten yogurt and gum put on my car on separate occasions...haters gonna hate.



But if I were you, I would definitely dispute it. The speed limit on GW Pkwy is 50mph IIRC. You shouldn't have gotten that ticket, especially at that time of night when there is almost nobody on that road.
