Many posts in this thread state that we should be more careful in what we believe. Of course we should, but that is sometimes easier said than done.

This "joke" worked because it used both central and peripheral routes of persuasion - centrally it involved credibility "an inside source" and peripherally because the message was repeated over and over. It also involved members of "our community" who through their membership in the forum became less anonymous and more trusted.

At issue also is how directly the information impacted us - many of us did not "critically" read the information in their posts becuase no matter what was said it would have little affect on our lives. Because of this the information that was posted was not more frequently questioned.

I am not angry about the content of the information, however I am angered about Tine's breach of trust. He lied to us, repeatedly. I do not care to associate or be associated (through similar affiliations) with liars, and I am glad that he was banned from the site.

I am inclined to give Speedfreak the benefit of the doubt -about his assertion that this was all a "plot" by Tine. However, he is too close to the situation for me to trust his "information" . He may very well be the victim of collateral damage - but all of his information will be more skeptically received.

I believe you...I mean you've been pretty solid on the forum with some pretty great info. I guess for most people (me included) the whole thing is just kind of strange. Any idea why tine go to such lengths to make up such an elaborate story, and pick you to be the patsy?
