Bluetooth Audio Streaming?

Anyone know if Bluetooth Audio Streaming works in 2009 M3s? It sure would be nice to listen to music off my iPhone via bluetooth, while it is in the smart phone cradle being charged and with stronger signal.

Unfortunately, my M3 was not ordered with the smartphone integration from factory, so i only have charge / signal strength benefit when plugged in cradle... no music support

Why does that matter? I can listen to streaming audio from my iPhone on other accessories.

I think you can get the MP3/iPod feature on from the dealer. That is probably a better option that figuring out a way to play music through bluetooth. I don't know if it's my signal, but the sound quality of my bluetooth phone calls are comparable to AM radio.

M3 does not have A2DP abilities, only phone-specific features will be available via Bluetooth. For those without Bluetooth/Assist, The mObridge Bluetooth module will add A2DP streaming to your list of features. However, option 6FL will add iPod-specific integration - most BMWs choose this when ordering.

No need for the cradle, IMHO - it defeats the entire purpose of having Bluetooth since it requires removing the phone from your pocket to dock.

Over bluetooth? Meaning.. your iPhone is not connected via the cable?

So how can the iPhone bluetooth data be received if the radio doesn't have A2DP?

How does that work if the car itself doesn't support audio streaming via bluetooth? Not hating, just interested...

I did not see this thread before... so the deal is that the TCU really have A2DP support? What mode the OEM HU has to be to play A2DP?

it definately has A2DP support
but its mono and at a very low bitrate
i mean when i stream my ipod
it sounds like AM radio
but for stuff like navigation commands (Turn left at Main street) etc
its great
i also like it when i'm waiting for an important email
i hear the new email sound
so i don't have to keep the volume loud on the stereo to hear the iphone

well the iphone has to be jailbroken

go to cydia
search for "Bluetooth Mono SBSetting"
and install it
you also need SBSettings
this way when i want to divert all audio to the BMW headunit
i just enable that switch in SBSettings

A2DP is in stereo.

In what mode your OEM HU is set to receive BT music? I don't think that we are talking about A2DP if you can listen to BT music regardless of the mode the OEM HU is set. I think that what going on is that this application of yours uses the standard BT voice audio to "pipe thru" music, thus it is in mono.

you are correct about working irrespective of what mode, but A2DP can be mono or stereo
it works with any source, exactly like when you get a phone call
it interrupts any source and you get the ******* in the headunit (non idrive)
and anytime i hear any sound from the iphone
the music fades and i see the ****** on the screen
i mean it sucks if you want to listen to music
but its great for anything else
yesterday my 5 year old was listening to this

and he wanted the sound from the headunit , i couldn't be bothered to take out the aux cable so i used this feature
so he liked it

That's not A2DP.

I myself thought a2dp meant stereo, but check this according to wiki

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)

This profile defines how high quality audio (stereo or mono) can be streamed from one device to another over a Bluetooth connection.[1] For example, music can be streamed from a mobile phone to a wireless headset or car audio or from a laptop/desktop to a wireless headset.

A2DP was initially used in conjunction with an intermediate Bluetooth transceiver that connects to a standard audio output jack, encodes the incoming audio to a Bluetooth-friendly format, and sends the signal wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones that decode and play the audio. Bluetooth headphones, especially the more advanced models, often come with a microphone and support for the Headset (HSP), Hands-Free (HFP) and Audio/Video Remote Control (AVRCP) profiles.

A2DP is designed to transfer a uni-directional 2-channel stereo audio stream, like music from an MP3 player, to a headset or car radio.[2] This profile relies on AVDTP and GAVDP. It includes mandatory support for the low complexity SBC codec (not to be confused with Bluetooth's voice-signal codecs such as CVSDM), and supports optionally: MPEG-1 , MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AAC, and ATRAC, and is extensible to support manufacturer-defined codecs, such as apt-X. Some Bluetooth stacks enforce the SCMS-T digital rights management (DRM) scheme. In these cases, it is impossible to connect certain A2DP headphones for high quality audio.

ok so for those looking to try this, if your phones jailbroken you need to download sbsettings and the bluetooth mono sb setting. once downloaded I restarted my phone, probably not necessary but I did it. once restarted you need to flick/swipe the top status bar where your cell bars/time/battery are and a sub menu will drop down. and you can figure it out from there.

ok I did it and yes you can play it through the car, but its like a phone call it only plays in one speaker and sounds like ass. I could never see any reason to use it like that. but to be able to do it and it sounds normal would be cool.
