Rattling cup holder - E92 M3

The driver's cupholder in my 2011 E92 rattles when going over rough roads. It will rattle with the cupholder out or retracted into the dash. If I have the cupholder out and hold it firmly in my hand, all is quiet but otherwise I get the rattle. Was wondering if anyone has had this before and if there may be a DIY solution. Otherwise I will take it to the dealer and see what they propose. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the cupholder otherwise - and I never actually use it anyway.

You have a 2011 under warranty. If it's bothering you, dealership for the fix. Let it be their headache.

That may be the only solution but I fear it will be a couple of rounds of them saying they fixed it after jiggling it a little and spraying some silicon spray in there but not really fixing anything at all, then on the next visit dissassembling the whole dash and introducing a new rattle somewhere else, then finally replacing the cupholder with a new one only with the problem to come back in 3 months. I've been there before and it is a good way to spend a bunch of visits to the dealer to end up in essentially the same (or worse) place.

I was just hoping for maybe a simpler DIY solution that has been tried and tested by this community of owners who really care about their cars. But if this is not a common issue, I will indeed brave the dealership and hope for the best.

You could always try driving around with a half full beer in the cup holder

They will just replace it. Super easy to do. You can even pull it out yourself with you want to reinstall it. I did that after they replaced mine.

So you'd rather waste time in a forum when you could've went to the dealer and at least let them look at it. Everything you say about the dealer is speculation at best as you haven't even let them look at it. Problem could've been solved by now. No offense, but I really don't get these posts. It's a new car; let the dealer deal with the prob, that's what you're paying for.

My driver side cup holder has been replaced twice and the passenger side once.

Interesting, my dash vibrates, I can't find the source. I have to see if it's the holders. For me it sounds like it's coming from the trim piece, but pushing on it doesn't help

my dealer replaced my cupholder on warranty.it wasn't rattling,just wouldn't come all the way out.i sprayed some lube in there,but it didn't help.

just wondering if anyone has a fix for that now that i'm off warranty.

op,as others have said,your dealer should give you a new one. for those of us off warranty,they cost about $50;
