i guess 1 solid minute of bouncing off the rev limiter on original rod bearings will do this...

You could bounce a Kia off its rev limiter all day without any issues. Definitely a rod bearing issue.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Maybe a Kia could do this. Those engines are not designed for racing, they'll take an engine that can rev to 6500, put a 5000 limiter on it and call it a day, because it doesn't matter to Kia owners. If BMW put a 6500 rpm limit on this car, it could bounce the limiter all day. I'm confident engines like the Chevrolet LS1 or the Porsche M97 would respond similarly because they're designed to be operated by enthusiasts that demand more and are more likely to understand the intricacies of how an engine operates. BMW puts faith in the enthusiast to treat their cars properly, and in doing so, use better, sometimes more fragile, less restrictive parts and tunes. If the average Kia owner was furious about their highly restrictive rev limiter over on spectra-post.net (there isn't one because nobody gives a shit), Kia would lessen the restrictions to satisfy their customers.

I think an E92M3 should be able to do donuts, burnouts and drifting without blowing the motor. Sure, the rod bearings might have lasted a little longer without this, but my guess is that engine was not going to last.

His best bet would have been to tell his buddy to destroy the video evidence and let the thing burn.

I'd replace the motor and keep on driving.
Not to tempt fate but I'd rather blow the engine while enjoying it than fade away driving a turbo! Long live the S65!!! |

I heard an M4 pass by last night and it sounded awful. I'll take my chances with the S65 as well.
