Shift boot ring part #

Anyone know this? I'm talking about the ring that holds the shift boot in place. For E92 M3 6MT.

For starters, that pic is for E92s; M3s knob and boot are ONE piece. And #3 is the 'ring' the boot attaches to, which secures it to the console. Isn't that what you're looking for? But again, M3 is different due to the console buttons for EDC, POWER, and DSC. Good luck.

Mine has a ring, but I changed it to a JHP which I modified with stock lighting. Take care.

Did you basically take the stock boot and cut out the leather and replace the knob?

I'm basically trying to not destroy the stock one and keep it, while having another one installed in the car. Is that possible?

Yep. You'd never want to go back to stock after using a weighted knob .
I did it for 3 reasons: I was going to transfer the stock lighting, so had to destroy the stock knob anyway. With stock lighting transferred, it'd look like a stock knob (and it does), while looking and feeling way better. And third, an aftermarket boot with ring was going to cost as much as a stock knob/boot from Tischer, so it didn't make any sense. Oh, and there's a fourth reason: removing the stock knob without messing it up is a b*tch (or so I've heard ). I destroyed the tabs and came out relatively easy.

I suggest the following: buy the ZHP knob, remove your stock knob/boot, and go for a drive with just the ZHP knob. If you like it, I'd just cut your stock boot, even if you don't go with the lighted option (DIY or LeatherZ). These cars will never by collectibles . You can always buy a stock knob/boot later on if you want to. Good luck.

Makes sense I guess...too bad they don't sell the ring alone! Do you know the weight of the ZHP knob? I know it weighs more, but wondering how much more.

Thanks a lot for all the info BTW

there are alternatives like leatherz.com that sells the shift boot with and without the ring. but its a bit pricey imo. its $115 i believe shipped with the ring (not worth it).

with that in mind, as much i hate to do it, i'm going to mod my original shift boot to make it fit onto the ZHP.

elp_jc, how did you mod the zhp to make it light up? is it easy to rip out the internals of the factory shifter and transplant it to the zhp shifter? i cant find a write-up/DIY of this.
