Painting ZCP
Any advice on painting wheels, I have a set of zcp M3 e90 comp. wheels but dislike the black finish and would like to have them professionally re-painted, does anyone know which silver BMW uses on these wheels and are there
any downsides... New wheels are $2400 plus shipping , re-paint are $800.. |

I can't help on the exact silver BMW uses but have you looked into powder coating opposed to painting? $800 sounds like a lot. I got a powder coating quote for $600 just to compare.
Edit-just saw you're in Canada so the exchange rate makes that quote sound higher. Still look into powder coating though, I personally prefer it.

I had my ZCP wheels repainted for around $600 here in New Orleans. $800 sounds a bit high but not terrible... As for the color, I recall OEM being something like brilliant silver but would have to look that up. I had mine repainted a couple of shades darker than the OEM silver so they are a bit more to the gun metal side...

The silver color is what is referred to as a hyper silver. It's different than normal metallic paint in that is made of much smaller metallic particles than normal paint and its very thin so the particles lie down more and create less of a sparkly appearance and more of a mirror finish. Any decent shop that specializes in wheels should be familiar with that type of paint and able to match it.

Kscarrol,
Which shop painted the rims for you? I am interested to get mine ZCP painted also. I live in Metairie, I would love to see your wheels in person. Maybe we could meet up by lakeview sometime. |
