M-DCT... When?
I called my dealer last week. They said not having any confirmation when the M-DCT is available. Probably the M-DCT will be presented together with the E93 M3 convertible. I hope it's going to be before summer 2008...
Does anyone know when the M-DCT gearbox is available in the E92 M3? |

A few sources of questionable accuracy say March '08. Also, most rumors are in line with a March M-DCT release.
If you want more information I strongly suggest searching the forums on the topic. There are hundreds of posts in tens of threads about the topic. |

There is no concrete evidence what-so-ever about the release date for M-DCT.

I think I've resigned myself to joining the 6MT Club.

DCT schedule
I could be surprised, but I'm thinking it may be a 2009 model addition.

Gosh I still can't decide yet if to go with MDCT or 6Speed. But if I have to wait till 09, I'll get the 6speed for 08.

US preferences
I know I have said it over and over again but it is my strong belief that BMW is doing EVERYTHING it can to get the M-DCT available in the US M3 absolutely ASAP. The strong preference for "lazy driving" in the US demands an automatic transmission and DCT will effectively deliver an automatic like experience. DCT is also an important strategic/technology component that BMW needs to have in its flagship performance car. Audi/VW have it and very soon Mitsubishi and Nissan will have it as well. Next, it offers the performance and technlogy that many of the more hardcore folks demand. It will also likely elevate the performance of the car just that bit more above (or closer to, in some particular battles with some particular competitors) some pretty close competitors.

-Does the CSL mule we have seen have DCT? Given historical precedence I would say it does -Are BMW actively testing M-DCT yet at the N'Ring or other public tracks? -If so has the general hype about the car died down enough (likely, since it has been fully released it many countries already) so that photographers simply don't care about getting M3 shots anymore? -Has a M-DCT equipped mule or otherwise been in the US for the testing and approval specifically that qualifies a particular option for this market? BMW requires such region specific testing in its largest markets -Did we see much in the way of spyshots of SMG in the E46 M3. I followed the E46 M3 launch closely (and owned one but only a 6MT) but remember very little in this regard. It was not available then until the 2nd model year fo the car. I am sure there are those who followed SMG on the E46 more closely than I did and hopefully they can chime in. I hope I am right as well. I will not buy this car without a DCT and personally it has already been torture with all the waiting. Waiting as more and more M3s get on to the streets will simply be torture. I don't think most folks will deny the fun/excitement/novelty of having a car early in its release and that is the thing that is killing many of us who are fairly well decided on the car itself and on M-DCT as well. |

There are no spy shots yet for two main reasons. One, the M3 is now of very little value to photographers due to the car already being on sale, so it may be that there have been opportunities to take a photograph, but they just weren't that interested. Two, it's very easy to disguise the interior when the car is parked. Just stick a cover over the steering wheel and transmission tunnel. There have been a few pics of M3's parked up with a cover over the dashboard. They were more than likely covering the DCT. I think I would hazard a guess and say the DCT will be launched on the cabrio at Geneva in March. |

But do notice in addition to my call of repost my opinion and sharing of useful information about that wonderful site! I really felt you and others would benefit from my advice about that place. It is really quite abysmal.

I would find it surprising that UK or European dealer don't know the time scale for the launch of the M-DCT, unless it's still further than anyone thinks, meaning more than 6 months.
Does anyone even know how long the gearbox has been in testing because I would have thought you would be talking at least 18~24 months before you would seen it on the streets. |

The 3 dealers that I've visited in London still think it will be SMG.
