Plasti Dipped Rims Black!

So after countless hours of debate and $30 worth of spray can black plasti dip, I took the plunge. I have to report i'm pleased and pleasantly surprised at how well the outcome has been.

2 Wheels were already off the car for a different reason and I did the front wheels while still on the car.

PICS!
Prep
After 3 coats rear
After 3 coast front

Thats 4 or 5 can't remember, the fumes were getting overwhelming towards the end. I honestly think they could use another 2 coats a piece.

Looks good, just don't change your mind... Such a bitch to remove. I did this on my S4 Avant a couple years ago.

Good luck removing it. I did ONE of my Advan TCIII (very simple wheel design) and it was a nightmare to remove. Especially the overspray which doesn't "just wipe off" like Youtube would have you believe.

Just did my comp wheels! Look nice any for under $50 for a wheel color change not bad. And yes overspray is a pain to remove.

Nice, I'm thinking of doing this to my Le Mans blue e92 to see how black rims look on it. Some questions for you.

1. You didn't paint the inside of the wheel? I see that you had paper filled in the inside.
2. How'd the plastidip handle when you torqued the wheels to the car?

nothing done to the inside other than what was visible behind the plastic bag.

torqueing the wheels was a snap, no problems there at all.

It peels off if you take it off the day after you've applied it... but if you wait for 6 months, like I did, it's really tough as it becomes impregnated with brake dust and road grime which makes it brittle.

Goo gone is what I finally used to speed up the process, but it's still tough work and a huge mess, especially trying to remove it from the lug holes. If I had to do it again, I'd probably take it to a shop for an acid bath or media blast.

k thanks! sounds like a weekend project for me then! i thought the dip peels when you're trying to tighten the lug nuts back in when you're done.

Looks good.
I am spraying the emblems, as well as the grills on my Jetta. Two eyelids pieces are giving hard time. They are bubbling on the corners. I've never had a problem with regular spray paint.

Nice man! I'm picking up an E90 on sat with the same rims. I was thinking of doing that to them as well. I plasti dipped the 214s on my x5 and they came out awesome. At this point I'm still undecided if I will do the new cars rims or not. I love the way they look stock, but I want to black everything out too so idk.

Looks nice.

I've seen a bunch where it looks like ass, but it looks great when you apply it right.
