Just like OEM PS2s, they are street tires, albeit high performance ones. They're acceptable at track speeds, but the answer to your question depends upon what you are trying to do on the track.
If you're just running a few open-tracking laps, they'll be fine. If you're relatively inexperienced with regard to track time, they will probably be better than you are, as are the PS2s. For anything more intense, you're better off with R-compounds, but they will suck on the street, and likely be illegal. There are a few street-legal R-compounds. For example, I run Yoko A048s on my Lotus, which were OEM on the sport package cars. However, I'd hate to spend much time in the rain on those tires. By point of reference, Yoko Neova AD07s were the std. Lotus package on non-sport pkg. cars. The AD08 is just the successor to that tire.

I have never owned A048 but from what I've read, I would not attempt to use them on the street unless I lived in a hot, dry climate...
AD08 should be like a much better version of PS2 with shorter treadlife. |

They will perform better than a PS2 in every way except on the wet. Ride will be stiffer, but steering response should be one of the best. The AD08 is supposed to have a better steering response than the RE-11, but is a bit less comfortable.
I don't think you can go wrong with this tire.

And they are good for about 6K miles (outer limit) in street use before they are toast. They're gone in a long weekend on the track.

Good info here. Compare to RE-11, Z1 Star Spec, Kumho Ecsta XS etc. Hardcore for street, perfect for street-tire class autocross, entry level on the race track.

I would stay away from the RE-11's since they tend to get greasy after 30-40 seconds on a tight course especially on a heavy car.
I use street tires bc I find it to be a pita carrying track wheels around for my daily driver. If I had a 2,800 lbs race car then I'll make sure it was on r-comps. |

I have the Nitto NT05 on my 18's and I really like them. Very nice grip and awesome thread design. I'm running 245-40 & 285-35.

Most people don't realize that even in this category, there is still 2 tiers of tires. AD08 is a very impressive tire with an even more impressive compound. I have tried RE-11 personally and found them to be LESS greasy than AD07 and RE-01R. That being said, I don't believe the AD08 will be more greasy than that of the AD07. Someone earlier mentioned NT-05 and I agree, they also are amazing tires for the price and close to that of AD08.
P.S. AD08 and PS2 are in 2 different tire groups. |

Isn't the NT05 & AD08 on same category?

They are but in reality, they're in two different tiers. Performance on these two tires are a little different in my opinion. I feel though as the NT05 is more oriented for auto-x use where the tire requires very little time to heat up while the AD08 is made more for track users doing more than 10+ laps a session. Don't get me wrong though, NT05 is an amazing tire for the price.

The others around the same category do well but, in reality, if you're looking for overall stickiness, this is it. |

So, AD08 or RE-11?

Personally I say the AD08.
The Re-11 is going to be a bit more "ride" friendly so a bit less noisy, and a bit more comfortable, but in return the AD08 has a good amount more grip through the bends. Please note, the more ride friendly and the noise difference is very minimal, but more grip by a pretty good amount (at least I felt) by the AD08.
