My point was not about if the F8X will be lighter or not or by how much.

It was about the contradiction. In one thread 200lb make the world of difference on how the new M will perform. And in this thread, where 45lb does not make a difference at all .
Yep got your point and i agree with you on that, sorry for going off track.

The only part I don't like about where many hi-performance cars are going these days is that they are getting bigger. I passed on the new 911 because it just got too big. Maybe we're all growing too much in girth!

I just ordered a 2013 M3 with the moonroof for two reasons:

1) I live in California and love using my moonroof, night and day.
2) I ordered Laguna Seca Blue which doesn't go well (visually) with CF at all. I would have considered painting the CF roof if the moonroof wasn't available.

I recognize that most people like the CF roof, but I love the moonroof, and am happy it's not an extra cost option like it was on the E46.

I went silverstone with moonroof. Already have an appointment for vinyl carbon fiber roof wrap and and Dinan exhaust. Only thing left is a weekend crash diet and I'll recover most, if not all 45 lb. weight loss......AND all while improving my health! BMW

how the hell are we on 6 pages of this!? It's a balance of personal preferences, unmeasurable performance gains/loss and unmeasurable utility for each option.

/thread, let's move on.

Anyone ever ask BMW if you could order a moonroof but have that exterior panel wrapped just for the looks? Since they are no cost options, perhaps a combination of them would also be 0? Or atleast cheap?

+1

However, I think all of us CF roof afficionados should at least offer a big "Thank You" to those snapping up the moonroof models as their preference is at least partially subsidizing the CF option at-no-additional-cost to us.

Thanks guys!

Agree. My original question was one of measurable performance differences, not personal preference, a question that was answered as much as possible in the first couple of replies. Folks then chose to go off on a personal preference track and then complain that this is another thread devoted which is better aesthetically. Since aesthetics is purely personal, kind of a silly debate.

Non CF roof with moonroof

On a related note, for Non CF roof with moonroof, does the metal roof retain the sculpted roof shape, with the two lines leading from the power dome in front, through the roof, and onto the trunk lid?

Anyone knows or seen pics to prove it one way or another? :

Thanks
