Dinan Software Upgrade.....

I have searched the forums and have found isolated threads about the Dinan Software for the E9X. Just wondering how many of you have it and what your impressions are. Worth the $$ or not?

Thanks,
Jeff

I actually scheduled it this summer but they wanted to charge me 4 hours labor on top of the price of the tune (around $1200 total). After thinking about it, I canceled the appointment.

Did you ask them how it was possibly going to take more than a half an hour let alone 4???

I am getting the flash/software tommorow morning @8am... Cost of labor is for a half hour = $54 the Tune/Software was also 20% off w/ the Dinan sale going on now.

I don't understand why, but those software updates take time. When I got my car reflashed (for free) multiple times at Dinan, they were working on my car for at least 1-2 hours at the very least. They weren't making a dime on me for the time.

We have probably performed about a dozen of these flashes. Some customers say they feel a bump in power, some say they don't, but all of them have said that it made the vehicle drive smoother. My personal observations is that they drive smoother and have a improved throttle mapping (could be mistaken as a bump in power).

wow thats.....wow. It typically takes about an hour from start to finish (including set up)

i have had there software in all 3 of my M cars and loved it. it doesn't give the most hp like some others but it also doesn't push the envelope and make it un reliable or void warranty like some others out there

for this car i def feel like the car runs smoother and esp on take off. the extra rpm's are great and felt little bump in power but not much. still feel it was worth it though considering how much better the car runs now

Yhea they really tried to F' you...

Once I get the software I will post my opinion. I also have a Dinan pulley I got installed today. And have their Free-flow exhaust and a stage 1 suspension + camber plates on the way.

I though about doing a tune , Can or Does any dealer BMW dealer do it. And it does not void warranty,Right . I thought you did get more HP out if it.

It has to be a Dinan authorized dealer or shop. I am doing mine at a Dinan authorized shop that has no affiliation to BMW or my dealership. The labor price is significantly lower. Your warranty is not void unless something were to happen and it was the direct fault of the tune, in which case Dinan will supposedly cover you. This is one reason Dinan stuff is higher priced, you are paying for that piece of mind.

And yes you do get more HP out of it.

Here is the exact description from their website:
Dinan E9x M3 Engine Software raises the factory rev-limit from 8400 to 8600 RPM*, endowing the V8 with a broader power band and greater road speed potential in each gear. The software also removes the top speed governor, enabling the cars to attain their ''natural'' top speed; and the V8 will pull right to red-line in top gear! Changes to the throttle mapping help soften throttle tip-in for a sportier feel and improved modulation capabilities. The combination of Dinan's re-calibration of ignition timing, fuel delivery, and cam timing produce a maximum gain of 9 hp @ 6000 rpm and 8 lb-ft @ 6000 RPM. Peak horsepower is increased from 414 to 421 at 7900 RPM. Rev-limit raised from 8400 to 8600 rpm in manual mode only for cars equipped the M Double Clutch Transmission. The rev-limit is unchanged for the M-DCT in automatic mode.

Yes I am using Foreign Affairs...

I will post an immediate reaction probably late tomorrow. But I will need some time a week or so I would imagine to get a real feel for it all. I also have Macht Schnell scoops and filter installed.
Then I am still waiting on the suspension and exhaust to arrive.

It will void your BMW warranty but Dinan steps in if there is a non-covered repair. You're trading a BMW warranty for a Dinan warranty on affected parts.

i see your in NJ, i would reccomend Motor Works West in NJ. they are not a BMW dealer they are a race shop that is a Dinan dealer. i have been using them for years and def reccomend them. ask for Chris if you decide to go, tell him Harrison sent you and he will take care of whatever you need

Prestige BMW is now a Dinan dealer but i wouldn't reccomend them. they don't have techs like MMW does. MMW was the only other Dinan dealer allowd to do S3's on the M cars other then Dinan in CA. i am sure there are others now but i know they were the first allowd bc of there rating

http://www.motorworkswest.com/

you do get more power. it is rated at like 9hp and 8tq if i remember for the stage 1 software. its just with 414hp it is hard to feel 9hp gain. but you def will notice how much smoother it drives and takes off

it never voided mine on any of my M cars. where my buddy had a different tune company and the same dealer that didn't void mine flagged my buddies car and voided his warranty

that was back when i had my E46 M3 and after i saw what he went through and trying to fight them i decided it was not worth getting any other company that i would get none at all or just the Dinan one
