Worst Tire Buying Experience from Dealership

Hi,
When i bought the car about a year and a half ago from Passport BMW, the car came with continental CS3s. I was very happy with them but hafter 16K miles, i wantted to replace them with PS2s. I talked to the same dealership where i bought the car and they gave me a reasonable price for the tires and told me that they were in stock. On the same date, April 4th, i told them that i will go ahead and buy the set to be installed on Saturday 9th. On thursday the 7th i get a call from the dealership saying that they are in back order and that they could only get the front tires for now. I told the service manager that tirerack has these tires and would be delivered within 2 weeks. The service manager said it shouldnt take more than two weeks to get the tires to the dealership as well.

So on the 9th we went ahead and replaced the front tires, i had to since i had a nail in one of them. I get the tires replaced, and after 20 mins i leave the dealership, i received the low tire pressure warning. I was furious because they already had the car for 6 hours to replace the tires and it turns out it wasnt done correctly. Took the car back the next day, turns out they couldnt fit the tire on the wheel, so they re-installed it but they strached the wheel while doing this. The dealer said he would fix it when i bring the car in to install the rear tires.

Today is the 22nd, 18 days passed since i ordered the "in-stock" tires. The service manager still says he cant see the status of the tires thru their system and therefore he doesnt know when they would arrive. Tirerack has now provides delivery by May 20th. I dont know what to do. wether to just cancel the order with dealer and go with tirerack or wait till the dealer gets it.
Its been the most frustrating tire purchasing experience i had. I have never seen such irresponsibility by any dealer and the fact that they are clueless on the delivery date drives me crazy.

Why would you buy tires from the stealership? You could undoubtedly get what you're looking for elsewhere at a cheaper price and with better service?

Sounds like you're already in too far. Probably just go through the tremendous hassle and find yourself a new dealership perhaps?

Buying tires from a dealership is like using a valet parking. You get the same parking but for more hassle.

Will stealership install tires not purchased thru them?

Why not order the tires from a store that pretty much focuses on tires like Big O Tires or something? Did the dealership offer you a good deal at least?

+1... Most people I've dealt with that are service advisors lie and have no true business ethics. On top of that, they have absolutely no idea of what they are talking about.

OP, tire rack next time and start finding a good tire shop away from the dealership. Hard to believe that they give good service when they are taking 6 hours to replace 2 front tires and have a hard time fitting 19x8.5 wheels with 245/35/19 PS2's. I bet it would take them 2-3 days to fit 25 profile tires. These should actually be easy. If done right maybe no more than 15 minutes to mount each tire at the MOST..

I would never get tires from my dealer. Incompetence AND high cost are not motivators. I use an independent shop that services MB/BMW/P-cars. These guys have the latest equipment and have never scratched my wheels.

I always get Tirerack to ship the tires directly to this shop.

I heard they do as long as they are OEM tires/rim. Obviously you have to pay labor and pay for the alignment.
My local dealership has Hunter equipment and will install any tires you want. They've done a nice job for me in the past.

Sounds like a similar experience to me except it was about oil. Bring my M3 in for the 1k checkup. This is my 3rd BMW so everyone knows me and I'm an asshole when it comes to touching my car. Anyway I bring it in and the idiots over fill the engine oil. I'm driving my car and not 30 seconds from the dealership it feels like I'm in a pinto with hydro's pimp'n to snoop d o double g. I mean it's an oil change and you F it up. Seriously it's the simply things that always get screwed up. Had to leave it for yet another day they finally get it right. Don't even want to mention the next time but I will. 6 months later they do the oil change and drive my car over 20 miles. I seriously yelled at about 10 people. Everyone was so pissed off at this 29 year old kick'n butt and tak'n names. Last time I brought it in I think they were scared of me. That's right...

my local dealership has long ago given up trying to compete with TR. Their happy to get the install business but cannot compete on tire price.

When you buy the OEM tires from tire rack do they have the OEM star on it as well?

Yes they do

Call up tirerack and they will answer all your questions

However I recommend the Michelin Super Sports. They are better than the PS2 in EVERY way. Better wear, grip, price, everything

I have tire insurance for 3 years and i cant use supersports because they are not OEM brand. With the rate of nails sticking on my tires, i dont want to void the warranty

Exactly, we sell the BMW OE tires, as well as the other versions. If you shop by vehicle, and select 'view OE tires' it will show you those. Even if you view all when shopping by vehicle, it will highlight the OE tire. If you have any confusion, doubts or concerns, always feel free to call.

And as always, clicking through the banner helps continue our sponsorship of M3Post.
