When you kids are older and moved away, you may wish you had lightened up with a car which is now long gone and looked for every chance to have the rug rats around you, dirty faces, shoes and all.

Of course..... just use common sense - if the shoes are wet or nasty, take 'em off - buy the weathertech rubber mats and you won't have a problem. My main rule is NO drinks in the car...spills DO happen.

The advantage of leather over speed cloth....

Put some wipes in the trunk for when those messes do occur,

you can always buy a new car....

Although we have two other cars I have a car seat in my M coupe.

The reason is my 3 yr old always says "bw" every time he see the ///M so I end up taking the coupe w him. Fries, nuggets and apples juice included.

I have a set of protectors for the back of the fron seats. My 7 yr old daughter likes to sit with her feet together folded under her to one side, usually with the shoes resting against the back of the seats. After one rainy day I looked back and seeing her comfortably sitting in her usual fashion looking at me with her big beautiful brown eyes, I said to muy self...FUK IT... drive on!

Since that day, everything is kosher!

It's a car! Maybe you should get a dog crate for the kids.

Both of my boys (19 and 22) drive the M regularly and I enjoy it because they enjoy it.

I take my wife's car to drive him around.

I certainly understand about kids. My friends car is all scuffed up by the kids shoes and toys. I understand the M is not a lambo, but it is still a lot of money to most of us. With same money you can put a nice deposit for a condo flat.

If I had a late model corolla as my only car, I would still like to keep the car fairly new. Its just how I am. For those who grew up in a working class family, we certainly appreciate having a nice condition car.

There are times were we can control the x factors, why make it hard on us. Accidents do happen, however we can prevent or take caution to these events, such as training the kids to behave to sit still, no food or drinks, etc.
1. Give your friend Head N Shoulders.
2. Buy your other friend a folding chair.
3. Get rid of your father in law. He has too many issues.
4. It's a car. Drive it, fix it, replace it. If the car is used for its' intended purpose, you'll need to accept the aforementioned.

^^^ this x1000. M 3yo daughter tried to help me wash my car with a rock the first week I got it. Nothing a little buffing and polish couldn't hide. At least she was outside enjoying herself with me! Sure, I was pissed, but I realized quickly that it's just a car.

My 3 and 1 year old kids ride in my M with boots and shoes on. Snacks and drinks included.

To put this into better perspective, my friend lost his 8-month old daughter last week to SIDS. Attending the funeral yesterday really hit home for me on these material issues - makes me cherish every moment with my wife and kids to the fullest. Enjoy your families guys!

My kids have known these rules since they were old enough to talk. They understand them and it's all good.

Most of the time I take their shoes off. Kids are little, and as they move around their feet get on the seats, etc. Their shoes slide off easily, not big deal.

Have a larger vehicle for that purpose.

Of course. Its a car, I bought it as a DD and because my son's hockey and baseball bags fit in the trunk (would have liked to try a 996 TT...but not much room for "stuff")

When you'll get old, your kids will make you take your shoes off when you'll be getting into their car

You can take care good care, but still it's just a car...

Does the "M" stand for museum? Are you trying to use it as a clean room?

Just lay some basic ground rules and buy some winter mats and a shop vac. This seems to work at our house. If you sweat the small things with your kids, they will sweat the small things about themselves. Just my two cents.

Initially I wasn't going to take the 4mth old in the M3 - that is what my wife'a X1 is for. But on the day I got the M3, my wife said 'I hope you are not planning to drive around all weekend in that and leave us at home'. Went and bought another child seat the following day and installed in M3. Much prefer driving around with the family in the M3 instead of the diesel X1. Plus you never get back time not spent with your kids, every moment is precious.
