.380 is an anemic round for personal protection.
9mm or "better" to answer your question: Walther PPS Or Glock 36. /END THREAD

BS. the sight picture on such a small gun is not fantastic. when you're buying a weapon specifically FOR personal protection, a laser is a good item to have. especially at night. it's not a novelty, it's extremely practical.

yeah, because when you are in a life/death situation, you have all the time in the world to. "Hey guy trying to kill me, can you wait a second so I can aim my gun at you"?
The gun is designed so you can draw and activate the laser at the same time. |

Just practice more at the range and you won't need a laser for a subcompact. |

That's the idea, there is no need to focus. Put the dot where you want to shoot and pull the trigger. No, no one "needs" a laser...

Kimber Ultra RCP II or the Kahr PM40. I know someone posted the Kahr broke, but mine has been super reliable and accurate.

At the same time I bought my Smith Wesson M&P9mm, a buddy purchased a .380 Bodyguard to keep in the truck and shop. We have taken both guns to the range, and we both HATE shooting the .380BG as much as we love the M&P 9. He is already in the market for a new CC firearm.

If you are looking for a "pocket gun" and you want to stick with a 9mm and/or a Sig then check out the P290. They may be a little hard to find right now because it's a pretty new gun.
If you are open to other brands then you should look into: Kimber Solo Kahr PM9 Ruger LC9 Glock 26 |

But, they are probably as concealed as concealed get. If $#it hits the fan you don't even have to take it out of your pocket. If you're comfortable with Glock 26, you should also consider Glock 27 - Same size, .40 cal, 9 rounds. Or, Glock 33 - same size, .357 cal, 9 rounds. There are also few guns even smaller than Glock 26 / 27 / 33. - Taurus 709 (9mm) or 740 (.40) - only 6" long. - Taurus Millenium Pro - 6.125" long, and comes in variety of colors and finishes. Then there is Walter PPK, which is also 6.125" long, but less bulky. Quote:

$30+ for a box of 50 target rounds does sounds bit excessive. They were not hollow points, were they? I can get you rounds for less than that. PM, if you're interested.

XDM or Sig P230 are what I'd like for subcompact...but I think it's always important to find something that feels right in your hand.
As far as lasers go, I think you will be dependent on finding the lasers before shooting. It can be a deterrent if someone sees it land on them, but in a real situation, by the time you find the dot it may be too late. If you pull out the gun at all, unless you're a hothead, you're already in a bad situation. If you're a hothead, you shouldn't even carry because it can be more trouble than help. I've never been in situations where a gun was a necessity. |

And I'm not saying a .380 won't kill someone. a .22LR will kill someone. However, if you have a CHOICE, why choose something inferior? If you and I are 20 feet away from each other and we both shoot each other, and you shoot me with your anemic .380, and I shoot you with my Glock 36, who will fair better? I would choose a .380 over NOTHING, obviously. The point is WHY choose a .380 when there are plenty of better options? I own a .380 btw. But I would never carry it for personal protection. Not that I can carry anymore

I carry a G26 in the summer, G23 in the winter (I know, I know, I should have gone with the G27 - but I have confidence in 9mm JHPs). Ruger LCP when I'm in a hurry. P229 as the "nightstand" gun.
I recommend the 26, but you need to find what fits YOU.
