So...i just got off the phone with my CA...she said the only thing she knows about the 2011 M3 is there is going to be design changes (prob talking about the taillights) and a HP bump to 470 and a 0-60 of 3.7 seconds!!! WTF, moar stealship B.S.? She said the info was from BMW and they have a launch party planned for it...i call B.S. but if it is true then holy shit...awesome...might not end up being a bad thing i totaled my car

2010s just came out, how could they possibly have specific numbers on 2011 already?

As a dealership employee, I can tell you that we are usually the last ones to find out about any changes with the vehicles. I wouldn't trust it.

Sounds like BS to me as well. I don't see why BMW would release MY11 specs now. Your CA might be getting things mixed up with another product.

BMW isn't changing engines now, there would be prototype cars all over the place if that were true.

Wasn't it already established that March LCI cars will be designated 2011 models?

well it's pretty pointless to discuss it now since no one really knows but...
1. since this came from a dealer, even if it's true im going to call BS. and if she's right im going to say she accidentally got the info right
2. i dont expect BMW to watch RS5 and C AMG (whatever the new number will be) take over the market and just watch. BMW may have done a power change mid cycle to an M car before, they may have been satisfied with E46 power so they kept it, but when it comes to a changing market there's no fixed rules. they have to react to the market and gain those dollars back.

I hear a lot of people saying BMW doesnt bump power or change engine mid cycle, which to me is ridiculous, because this is a business, it's not a culture.

And from my experience, when you do know, you usually don't share it.

Additionally, why would a salesman tell you anything that would lead you to not buying the car he has sitting in front of you? I'd sell you the 2010 model, and then bring you back in to buy the "improved" 2011 model. Trixy.

I don't disagree with the notion of BMW as a business vs. culture, but in order to justify the development work necessary to bump the M's HP (unlike MB where the power increase is practically free), the cost to develop has to be much less than 1.) the potential profit lost to direct competition due to their higher HP numbers (not likely since these are not the high volume variants of their respective models and HP has never been BMWs selling strength anyway) and 2.) the loss of future brand profits due to lower levels of 'brand' loyalty (granted, this second piece is most likely a much lower number than the first).

Unless the 4.0 V8 or the v10 variant will see use in a future BMW model, I highly doubt that the company would be interested in developing it any further. I say nay to a HP bump.

Absolutely BS. Probably confusing things with GT and numbers are off. Dealerships are routinely wrong. Dont get too excited! Sorry.

very valid point! that would be a very good reason not to change an engine. this is the first time someone offers a logical reasoning behind the blah blah i heard before

there *could* possibly, but again who the F knows, right?, be a discussion about introducing the next gen engine in this car, and just further develop it or "bore it out" for the next gen. but it's all about engineering and business "opportunity costs". my point was just that 1. who knows? 2. why not

i hear your argument though
